Book Description

4 Sep 2006 Little Princess

The hilarious Little Princess returns with more tears and tantrums in this humorous picture book of good manners.

‘I want…I want…I want.’

The Little Princess needs to learn some manners but, several tantrums later, once she’s mastered ‘please’ and ‘thank you’, she finds that not everyone else is so polite! She’s certainly not going to give the Beastie back his dinner until he asks nicely.

My daughter Jessica, two and a half loved the main character - the little Princess who is learning to say 'please' and 'thank you' throughout the book. The illustrations are interesting with lots of points for discussion with a small child. The hardback pages are durable so Jessica can look at the book alone. It is clear that this book is now her favourite - to the point that when she requests it at storytime, I turn the page and she can remember the words!

5.0 out of 5 stars Tony Ross - fantastically witty as ever 18 Mar 2002
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
This is the first of the Tony Ross books we bought our daughter (aged 2) and we have gone on to buy many more. This book is funny and imaginative with eyecatching and endearing illustrations. The use of repetitive text is helpful for language development. We have all come to know and love 'the little princess' in our family, can't get enough of her!

5.0 out of 5 stars Mother of Autistic Child 18 Oct 2011
By evieDee
Format:Hardcover
My son is 3 and has Autism and trying to get him to sit still long enough and be interested in books until now had been a chore. He loves this book! He knows it almost word for word and enjoys the fact that the little princess shows a variety of emotions in the book. He watches the programme on channel 5 and so can relate a lot. I am getting some more of these books because they are easy to understand and fun for kids! Plus it teaches manners such as please and thank you.

5.0 out of 5 stars My 2 yr old loves it 13 Mar 2011
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
The little princess books are funny and my 2 yr old's favourites. The art work is great and there are few words to each page so there is plenty of discussion about the pictures which she loves. My daughter especially likes this one; but for those who don't know the little princess she is a rather rude and demanding little lady, so I find it important to really EMPHASISE the moral and the 'good' parts of the story. 'I want my dinner' is about learning to say please (even though it doesn't teach her to say I'd like, or may I have rather than I want!)

3.0 out of 5 stars Good book. 18 Feb 2011
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
My 2 year old daughter loves the Little Princess books, at the moment she's obsessed with I Want My Mum so we haven't got into this one so much yet, but we have read it and she definitely enjoyed it as she has all the Princess books.

4.0 out of 5 stars A great favourite 3 Jun 2013
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
A great favourite - we love the whole series and have borrowed them from the library, but need to own a few as well in the hope that our toddler learns from them.

3.0 out of 5 stars OK but... 21 Feb 2005
Format:Hardcover
I have very mixed feelings about this book because I'm not sure what this book is trying to be...
Is it a bedtime story? If so, it is not in the same league as some of the other children's books available: e.g. the Gruffalo (or in fact any of the Julia Donaldson books) or Where the Wild Things Are.

Is it a reading book? The text is certainly simple enough for pre-readers however, it makes extensive use of capitals, which certainly confuses my son, and I would assume many other small children.

Is it teaching them a lesson? Maybe, but I'm not sure that stealing somebody's dinner and then demanding that they say please before you return it is a lesson I want my children to learn.

More positively a) my son loves this book and often requests it as a bed-time story and b) it is mercifully short
