Product Description

Product Description

A brilliantly entertaining tribute to the musical spirit of the divine Eartha Kitt as performed by René Marie, whose unique style incorporates elements of jazz, soul, blues and gospel. Her reputation as the most provocatively risk-taking of today's jazz divas makes her the perfect performer to deliver the first full-album tribute to Miss Kitt.

'I Wanna Be Evil' features both well-known and obscure gems of the Kitt repertoire including "C'est Si Bon", "Come On to My House", "Santa Baby" and more.

"The voice is as stunning as always, her phrasing immaculate, her ability to pack emotional wallops equalled by very few." - JazzTimes

Personnel: Rene Marie (vocals), Wycliffe Gordon (trombone), Adrian Cunningham (tenor saxophone, clarinet, flute), Etienne Charles (trumpet), Kevin Bales (piano), Elias Bailey (bass), Quentin Baxter (drums)

'Marie uses her mature, molten vocal sound to create some unforgettable moments...Exceptional jazz singing (and playing), scoring highest possible marks on every level; not to be missed.' -- Jazz Journal, (Bruce Crowther), November 2013 * * * * *

' I was a huge fan of Marie's previous two Motema releases...amazingly, I Wanna Be Evil eclipses them both...this brilliant homage to Eartha Kitt find the singer in dazzling form...Marie has just produced one of the finest vocal jazz albums of 2013.' -- Jazzwise, (Peter Quinn), October 2013 * * * *

'Marie is as spirited a jazz performer as you could ever possibly wish for...It's one of the most sensual female jazz vocals albums to come along in a long while.' -- Marlbank, (Stephen Graham), August 29, 2013 * * * *

'On I Wanna Be Evil, Marie's personality, massive stage energy and musicality come across with extraordinary vividness.'

--LondonJazzNews, (Sebastian Scotney), October 20, 2013

Rene Marie is fantastic 18 Feb. 2015
By Kathy Blackburn - Published on Amazon.com

Rene Marie is one of the most talented and unknown jazz artists today. Her version of Cole Porter's "Let's Do It" is an example of updating a standard in a very hip way while retaining the original spirit of the song.
