5.0 out of 5 stars Anyway, moving on, the DVD set itself....., 15 Jul 2007
Putting to one side the amazon issues, I'd like to comment on the DVD set itself. Overall its an excellent package which features all of the surviving third series on three DVDs. The fourth DVD contains an excellent documentary about the series with interviews of the cast and production team. There is also an extremely fat booklet written by the mind bogglingly well informed Andrew Pixley, which includes a full episode review and much background info.
Of the series itself, well its rather dated but then I wouldn't have it any other way. Having just sat through 'The Beautiful People' I'd say it is perfect nostalgic viewing for a Sunday evening.

5.0 out of 5 stars That's magic!, 7 Aug 2007
By Mr. A. J. White (Southampton, UK) - See all my reviews

If you're a fan of what Stuart Maconie described in his Radio Times review as "arcane entertainment", then Ace of Wands is for you. I'm a bit too young to have seen it when it first did the rounds, but am a big fan of old school Brit "sci-fi" (for want of a better description) -and this is a product of that merrily bubbling gene pool that gave us Sapphire & Steel, The Tomorrow People and Pertwee-era Who. From the animated titles and groovy theme tune to our ultra-fashionable heroes and their brain-bending escapades involving ESP and astrology, Ace of Wands is so screamingly 1970s it's hard to believe it's not some kind of elaborate latterday spoof. The minuscule kids' TV budget means it's rougher around the edges than delicate modern sensibilities might like, but the stories themselves are sophisticated and imaginative, and the psychically gifted Tarot (played with humanity and understatement by Michael Mackenzie) makes for a charismatic children's hero. His sidekicks, brother-and-sister team Mikki and Chas, are also likeable. Best of the episodes is Peacock Pie, starring Last of the Summer Wine's Foggy as a mack-wearing mystic with the chilling ability to make people believe whatever he wants them to. His manipulation of his poor old landlady, culminating in a threat to age her to death, is strong stuff - and all the better for being played straight. After wallowing in this excellent box set - complete with first-rate documentary - I can't believe I'll never get to see the first two series, which were wiped by the TV company. Come on, Tarot - one last trick!

5.0 out of 5 stars Who are these fools who are reviewing Amazon?, 26 Jul 2007
By Mr. C. J. Iredale "juxtapose" (hezza bezza) - See all my reviews

It is a real pity that some unenlightened people can't grasp the fairly simple premise of rating and item rather than using this useful service to rate Amazon'sabilty to nd ourproducts on time.

The product? Ace of Wands was a fabulous kids-but-also-for-adults series from the early 70s, that firmly rode the zeitgeist of the time. The stories are entertaining, if a little odd. Which, in our current era of mostly dull and unchallenging tv, this is a bonus. The extras are great, as one would expect from Network who have grown nicely from a cottage industry, supplying VHS copies of Charlie Says to the wonderful organisation we have now. The accompanying booklet is also great, brimming with information on this forgotten gem.

To those who want a pop at Amazon, whether justified or not, use another method; anyone who is looking at this product on spec may not look furhter if it's star rating has been dragged down by your mypoic attitude. Wake up!
