Sorrow, sadness, bitterness and grief, the opening words of this album are just some of the emotions touched on by the most expressive of singers. Maura manages to get to the real meaning of the song without having to resort to the hysterics of people like Whitney & Mariah. Maura does have a great voice which does exactly whats needed with the greatest of ease. The album also includes the song 'Shades of Gloria' which is excapsulates the openness of Ireland. Upbeat songs are catered for with Down the moor and Down Where The Drunkards Roll. It finishes with spoken words of Seamus Heany which again shows the land of her birth so well. This is a must have of all folkies and a grerat introduction to folk.

Maura O'Connell at her very best. A great selection of songs, mostly trad but with the odd modern cover (notably a superb version of Richard Thompson's "Down Where the Drunkards Roll") immaculately sung in her unmistakable mezza soprano with sympathetic (and varied) backing.

The week that this cd was released I was on air presenting an evening show in the Glasow, Scotland. I played just about every track from this cd on my show. I just love this lady's voice. She can express just about every emotion that a human being feels with what appears to be with little ease. I think I possess every cd that Maura has recorded and I am never disappointed when I put a cd on the stereo. Her voice is so refreshing. I think many of todays 'stars' in country music could learn a thing from listening to this lady's voice. Maura keep up the good work and I will keep trying to get you air play here in Scotland and on the net worldwide. Thank you for all the happy times you have given me with your wonderful voice
