I really enjoyed the book and read it in one go! The story was engaging, fast-paced, and I believe a good set up for what can become great series. I liked the characters and could relate to them, though a lot more development is needed there. Also the book is quite action based and has barley any mention of the world and its history, so I will be looking forward to find out more about the characters, the universe, and the adventures that await them in the sequels! Would definitely recommend it to anyone who is looking for an interesting, engaging, and easy read that has a big potential!

Have been reading a lot of sci-fi books recently, and this one caught my eye when it was promoted by Free Digital Reads (give them a follow on Facebook).

The concept of the story is compelling and it is interesting to consider how you would react to such a situation yourself.

The main characters are all believable, and what the story really had going for it, after just a few pages I was sucked into their individual stories and routing for them individually.

Goodson effectively adds in some good twists and turns that keep the pages turning.

I have read the following two books, which were as good, if not better, than this one, I look forward to seeing this story develop further.

By Richard Griffiths VINE VOICE

As a youngster I'd have written stuff like this, though perhaps with less fluency.

I love the idea of sentient spaceships and have a story of my own that I may develop onto kindle one day.

The story moves fast, there's a sense that the detail is missing or perhaps just not sufficient. Sequences happen without sufficient depth at times, a cause of the pace.

An all powerful ship turned off one reviewer, and given the pace of the story, it does seem that way at times. Unexplained weakness at certain times confused me a bit too.

I've read plenty of sci fi, some of it has a lot of meat and depth-from Asimov,Clark, Bradbury and others of the old guard to Dan Simmons, Neil Stephenson, Neil Asher and Iain Banks (sadly missed now). This type of meat and sophistication isn't present here, as is the case with many new kindle authors. On the other hand, the writing itself is pretty good - some books I've had on kindle have irritating prose and a shallow story at the same time. Here the prose is pleasant and enjoyable, I feel that the author is a work in progress and he wrote something I enjoyed the idea of.

I hope to see depth develop in this and his other stories over time, yet I admit to buying the next book just the same.

To refine my critical points, I offer this to the author-avoiding spoilers as much as I can:

I was 7 when I relayed a fantasy about falling onto a living spaceship-I felt a flashback to this imagining during the first three pages. On reflection I felt I should have a reason to care about Jess and Matt, walked a little in their boots, felt some of their life before they move to the next act. A background of the world, the reason for the tasks they were doing painted in, perhaps an enemy to dislike.

One other thing, such a powerful ship has reasons for life, and probably powerful enemies: I'd like to know more of her, or him, since she is the vehicle of the story :)

A simple but well put together story based on a super intelligent space ship and its new crew of escaped slaves. Not a complex story but very well written.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not quite four stars, sorry. 24 Jun 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
There's a lot to like in this book, it cracks along nicely, but it lacks the Sci (& the engineering) of Sci Fi.

Problem? The ship can sort it out, just hang on a minute and it will modify things just so. When that happened for the fifth or sixth time, getting increasingly less feasible, I lost interest. Whatever was happening with the storyline you knew that the ship would solve it all so why not just skip to the end? I did actually read to the end, but I'm not going to look for more of the same.

4.0 out of 5 stars Space fantasy 12 Oct 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and promptly purchased the next, which I’m enjoying as much. Characters’ emotions are expressed objectively without stirring the same subjective feeling, which loses 1 star. Science is stretched well beyond today’s understanding of what might even remotely be possible but the author doesn’t let that limit his imagination. I suppose I’d have to call its style Young Adult but at 73 what interests me is whether it entertains; it does.

4.0 out of 5 stars A ship with mysterious abilities… 9 Nov 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
A daring prison break from a space ship, with a penalty of death for failure, what could possibly go wrong with that?

When they come across a ship that responds to the pilot's thoughts, one that recreates itself from the pilot's thoughts, it looks as if providence is smiling down upon them, but there's a catch. The ship responds to every thought instantaneously, and if your stray thoughts could kill someone, you'd better rein them in quickly.

What do you do when people's lives are in your hands, literally, and you don't trust the people? Do you eliminate them? Imprison them? Set them loose to endanger others?

What do you do when having that power alienates you from your comrades, for the power that they believe is corrupting you?

Space battles and metaphysical tech take you on an adventure through space, inside a mysterious ship with abilities far beyond current human technology.

Unlike many books nowadays, this one has a definitive ending and can be read as a standalone. The ending, however, does entice you to want to read the next book :-)

Whilst the story is fast Paced and easy to read, the number of lucky escapes and breaks were just too convenient for my liking.
