In 1974, I was the first Music Director at KVLU at Lamar U. in Beaumont, Texas. I hosted a Monday evening blues show named Blue Monday. Bruce Iglauer had sent us what may have been the entire Alligator Records catalog at the time. There was Hound Dog Taylor, This record: Big Walter Horton with Carey Bell, and memory fails me as to what else was in the package. Thanks, Bruce!!! I remember being mesmerized, captivated, etc., etc.... by the superb playing and the interplay between the old master and his protege. What I don't remember is the shrillness of the high notes! Listening to the samples on the Amazon site, some of those high notes set my teeth on edge. Maybe it was the vinyl - I jus' don' know!. Maybe the digital medium just reproduces what was actually played at the session(s) accurately and the vinyl and turntables did not. I'm gonna have to play with the equalizer in my media player before I buy this one. This is a 5 star performance, but Just 4 stars from me because of those highs!
