Product Description
Walsall is probably the world's greatest centre of the saddlery trade. With origins in the Middle Ages, the town's leather industry had over a hundred firms exporting their products throughout the British Empire and beyond by the end of the nineteenth century. They also emerged as major supplier of military saddlery and harnesses. The twentieth century saw the rise of light leathergoods, such as handbags, cases and gloves. With the coming of the motor car these products became the mainstay of the Walsall leather industry. Today the town's manufacturers continue to supply high-quality goods to a global market. Four local firms are Royal Warrant Holders, and the town's saddlery trade is once again flourishing.
