Product Description

Product Description

At the same time, the Public Records Office also released a file containing letters submitted by several people who had known Wallis during her earlier years in America. One of them wrote from her home town of Baltimore that 'Wallis was a gold-digger or prospector of the evening, who never used a fossicking dish or pick to pan her pay dirt.' Expertly edited by Helen Batting, the nom-de-plume of a distinguished British-born historian, novelist, travel writer and freelance journalist, the Diary is also used to point to parallels with the present Prince of Wales and other public figures. Although using the same format, she should not, of course, be confused with the author of "Bridget Jones' Diary", "Helen Fielding"...

About the Author

'Helen Batting' is the nom-de-plume of writer and freelance journalist Michael Montgomery, whose previous books include All Out For Everest, Who Sank The Sydney?, Imperialist Japan, Fifth Men and Lear's Italy.

5.0 out of 5 stars You fooled me!, 15 Feb 2009
This review is from: Wallis Simpson Diaries '34 (Hardcover)
I thought this book was, indeed, an edit of Wallis Simpson's actual diaries. Imagine my surprise to discover that it was a work of fiction a la Bridget Jones!! I nevertheless am glad to have added this book to my library...I have scores and scores of books regarding the British Royal Family in the 20th (and 21st) century; I even have other works of fiction! Besides, Wallis's real life reads like a work of fiction. No novel could present a more remarkable, scandalous, riveting story. This book fits right in.
