Tensions rise as the two try to find Linda's missing friend. He is sober after years of alcohol abuse, but can Linda trust him? They have to solve the case before more people are harmed.

Byfånen/The Village Idiot:

When a man with long braids and an American Indian-style feather in his hair walks into a bank with what looks like a bomb around his neck, he demands that a precise sum of money be transferred to an account. The bomb is real and his wishes are carried out, but it is obvious that someone is exploiting the man, known in the village as being intellectually handicapped. 5.0 out of 5 stars Mad for Ystad 8 Feb 2010
Format:DVD
Bought this set and the rest of the Swedish series 1 direct from Sweden (for considerably less that this seller) after becoming totally hooked after this was shown on BBC4. This is without doubt exceptional television. There are not enough superlatives to use to explain just how good it is save to say that the acting is faultless, the interplay between Wallander and daughter,Wallander and colleagues and Linda Wallander and Stefan Lindman is great and the lack of silly trite stories(a'la Midsummer murders and that ilk) refreshing. You forget the subtitles after a few moments and become hooked by the cleverly crafted storylines. Storylines moreover which do not fail to pull punches covering many taboo subjects. A total joy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent portrayal of the books 22 May 2010
Format:DVD|Amazon Verified Purchase
This Wallender series lived right up to its advance publicity and word-of-mouth recommendations. These adaptations of the Mankell novels compare very favourably with respect to their inferior UK counterparts, that seemed to be a vehicle for Branagh to strut his stuff and which left the rest of the cast of Mankell's well described characters largely out of the picture.
I await the next set with enthusiastic anticipation.

5.0 out of 5 stars Essential viewing 20 Sep 2010
By Largo
Format:DVD
This first set of TV films is essential viewing for any Wallander fan who wants to understand the backlines to the stories of the characters that are developed through the rest of the series.

The storoes are dark but gripping and beautifully acted and filmed.

Highly recommended.
