Product Description

Four animated adventures featuring Nick Park's inimitable pair of plasticine heroes: cheese-loving inventor Wallace and his long-suffering dog Gromit. In 'A Grand Day Out' (1993), Wallace runs out of his favourite Wensleydale cheese on Boxing Day and cannot find a shop open to replenish his stock. The only solution is to get in his homemade rocket and head for the biggest block of cheese in the universe: the moon. In 'The Wrong Trousers' (1993), Wallace and Gromit encounter difficulties with the demonstration of the inventor's 'Techno Trousers' and encounter a rogue chicken. In 'A Close Shave' (1995), Wallace and Gromit set up a lucrative window cleaning business and get involved with a lady from a wool shop. Wallace becomes infatuated with her, but Gromit becomes interested in the case of some disappearing sheep, and blames the wool-shop owner's dog. However, the devious dog frames Gromit for the disappearing sheep, and Wallace must pull himself together in time to save the reputation of his old pal. In 'A Matter of Loaf and Death' (2008), the pair have converted their home into the 'Top Bun' bakery - complete with rooftop windmill - but with 12 local bakers having gone mysteriously missing, Gromit worries that they'll soon make up the baker's dozen. Wallace, meanwhile, is oblivious to the danger, having fallen head over heels for former Bake-O-Lite bread babe, Piella Bakewell. With his master otherwise engaged, it's up to Gromit to rise to the occasion and solve the mystery before Wallace becomes the next victim of the 'cereal' killer.

Synopsis

Celebrating the 20th Anniversary of Wallace and Gromit - the Academy Award (Oscar) - winning claymated pair have specially re-mastered all four of their smashing half hour specials in this complete collection!

A GRAND DAY OUT
Wallace likes a nice bit of cheese with his crackers, so when this eccentric inventor finds his fridge empty and the local corner shop shut for the Bank Holiday, he is forced to look further a field for his cheddar. The two modelling clay heroes blast off in their home-made rocket on the ultimate day trip – Wallace and Gromit are off to the moon!

THE WRONG TROUSERS
This time the modelling clay stars are plunged into a hilarious tale of skulduggery involving an extraordinary pair of automated trousers and a villainous penguin. Posing as an innocent lodger, the fiendish fish-eater sets about recruiting mild mannered Wallace as an unwitting accomplice to his dastardly plot - a diamond heist with a technically advanced, trouser-inspired difference. It is left to Gromit to turn detective and save the day as malice and mayhem culminate in a breathless train-top chase - around the sitting room!

A CLOSE SHAVE
Trade is booming for Wallace and Gromit's Wash'n'Go window cleaning service and love is in the air as Wallace falls for the owner of the local wool shop, the lovely Wendolene. But Wallace has a new incentive - a Knit-O-Matic machine - and adventure looms. Sheep are being rustled, wool is in short supply and Wendolene's malevolent pooch is on the prowl... featuring Shaun the Sheep!

A MATTER OF LOAF AND DEATH
Wallace and Gromit have opened a new bakery – Top Bun – and business is booming, not least because a deadly Cereal Killer has murdered all the other bakers in town. Can Gromit save his master from becoming the next baker to be butchered?

4.0 out of 5 stars Not 'complete' but otherwise brilliant 9 Mar 2010
By Mr. Stuart Bruce TOP 1000 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
Format:Blu-ray
It's not really the 'complete' Wallace and Gromit- no "Curse Of The Wererabbit" (available separately), no "Cracking Contraptions" (now hard to find), and none of their advertising and commercial appearances.

That aside though, you get all four of the half-hour Wallace & Gromit movies. The first three, originally shot on film, have been remastered for HD and done absolutely beautifully. They've been cleaned up very carefully, a lot of old movies don't look as good on Blu-ray as these do. Watching in HD, instead of exposing any problems with the puppets or sets, actually makes the whole thing more stunning. The attention to detail is captivating.

Each film has a commentary, as well as a 'making of' which charts the changes in technology and budget between the first and most recent films. A couple of other brief extras such as a photo gallery and a behind-the-scenes on the W&G Harvey Nichols poster campaign help fill the disc.

Ideally a 'complete' collection would have been a box set featuring "Cracking Contraptions", but what you do get is still beautiful animations with wit and charm.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Treat In HD 2 Nov 2009
Format:Blu-ray
Marking 20 years of 'Wallace and Gromit', 'The Complete Collection' brings together all four of the dynamic duo's television films - 'A Grand Day Out', 'The Wrong Trousers', 'A Close Shave' and 'A Matter of Loaf and Death' is glorious HD - for the very first time, in the case of the first three. There's little that can be said about the films themselves that hasn't been said already - they're all brilliant, and have all garnered a plethora of richly-deserved awards to reflect that. The question is - what is the Blu Ray like?

Picture and sound quality on this release is excellent, particularly on 'A Matter of Loaf and Death', but even the earliest film, 'A Grand Day Out', looks impressive. The high definition presentation highlights a few visual elements that perhaps weren't so obvious in SD - obviously painted backdrops, thumb-prints in the plasticine figures, and so on - but none of these detract from the films themselves, and to some extent actually enhance them, as it gives you a better sense of the sheer amount of work that has gone into even the smallest scenes. HD is also great for spotting little visual gags that Nick Park and co. have left scattered throughout the background. All the films are accompanied by commentaries, and there's a wealth of behind the scenes material too - though unfortunately this is all presented in SD.

I've seen these films countless times down the years, but the Blu Ray release really does give them a new lease of life - and compared with the standalone release of 'A Matter of Loaf and Death', it's terrific value for money too.

4.0 out of 5 stars Cracking Collection - but not original music 21 Jan 2011
By Marion
Format:Blu-ray
The four excellent short adventures on one BD. Seeing the four together in HD you can see the development of technique, however the first stories are as clever and funny as ever.

Only one real complaint, the music in "The Wrong Trousers" has been changed. Both the birthday card and the Penguin's radio. Just sounds does not sound right with the new tunes.
