This is one of several neat walkbooks produced by Marengo Publications, with a useful introduction and clear instructions for each walk, coupled with an excellent A3 double-sided large scale map (about 1km to the inch). The book contains additional street maps of the various villages in the area, and the text contains frequent references to landmarks such as churches, and road names in villages, which ensure the walker is on the right course. Its compact size and light weight make it easy to carry.
As with other Marengo publications, the map is remarkable, showing tarmac roads, concrete roads, dirt tracks, paths and kalderimi each in a different colour. In addition, heights are coloured between contours, so you get an immediate visual impression of the topography of the area.
Unlike some other walking publications, the map shows almost all the viable paths and tracks in the area, not just those referred to in the text, so you can plan your own walks as well as follow those in the book.
The book and map are supported by the walk update page on the Marengo website, where users are invited to feed back changes to the terrain that they have encountered. This helps to keep the book up-to-date for the benefit of subsequent users, and is an excellent idea.
