Ambiguous Directions!,

Bought this book as the selection of walks is excellent. The walk lengths vary from short walks to longer more challenging routes, the routes are spread around the County Durham and Middleton area. All seemed perfect till we tried a few of them out! We aren't idiots and have walked for years but to say these directions are ambiguous is an understatement! We have been lost on many occasions and friends who also have the book have suffered in the same way! My advice would be to use the book for ideas and 'vague clues' but if you attempt the walks without the back up of an OS map do so at your peril!

not detailed enough,

I bought this as we live in Durham but needed some different routes to walk in the area. We have so far completed 2 of the walks....both of which were not really detailed enough for us to follow completely and relied partly on passing strangers to offer some more guidance. In particular, on 1 of the walks through beamish woods, it does not mention the car park it tells you to park and set off from is only open seasonally, and tells you to walk along the railway lines which now have trains on them! Overall its not too bad, giving indication of where to go, but an OS map would be better as the maps in this book are very vague.
