After a break of 7 years between her first and second albums, Adriana Evans has started to release them more regularly. "Walking With The Night" is her fourth album and third in the last 6 years. This does affect the quality at all and this is another fine collection of soulful tunes. The album flows really well and is filled with mellow smooth jazz.

"Waiting" and "Suddenly" are examples of this and have a very cool sophisticated vibe. "Midnight" is quite funky and uses a guitar sample from the intro "Walking In The Sun" from her album "Nomadic" released in 2004. "Love Me On The One" has a powerful beat and is a great slice of pure funk and soul. "Never Thought" is another addictive funky track and "Surrender" is very groovy, reminding me of earlier work by En Vogue. All of these songs have such a happy and effortless sound to them. "Let You Get Away" is a catchy soulful track and "Sooner Or Later" is a soothingly sleepy jazz tinged ballad. "Walking With The Night" is another pleasant soulful tune and "Weatherman" is a very happy and infectious Motown influenced R&B song. "Set In Stone" is very sweet and has jazz influences. An extended version of "Weatherman" completes the album.

My only slight criticism is that the album does not possess any outstanding tracks and the melodies are generally quite simple and a little repetitive. This is very apparent on "Astral Projection" and "El Sol" which are a little bland in comparison to the other songs. But this does not take away the fact that most of the songs are very good and blend well together on "Walking With The Night", creating another solid effort from Adriana.

The Real McCoy 14 May 2010
By M. Bell - Published on Amazon.com

I am livid when I think why this vocally gifted and beautiful lady, Adriana Evans has not blown up BIGGER. I know the reason. Evans keeps her clothes on and doesn't cuss. Having an un-doctored voice with real music backing her is what made (makes) her great to listen to. Her 1997 self-titled debut came out and made some radio promotion noise. Some of the musically enthused stayed glued and loyal to her. Others might have thought her to be too sophisticated. These days being that way (eg. genuinely talented) is not a good thing. Go figure? After a sophomore CD and a couple of indie side gigs, Adriana kind of left the fickle and gimmicky US music scene. Actually, she went to Brazil, the UK and other parts of the world that appreciate her superior talent.
"Walking With The Night" is a solid project that might not get heard. I hope my two cents gets Evans the long awaited buzz she deserves. Her voice is fresh and flexible. She uses it like an instrument in each and every song. You can hear and feel her passion for music. Check her out. You will be beyond satisfied as I am. Enjoy!

Like dancing in the sun... 27 Feb 2010
By Nse Ette - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
Subtle Hip Hop beats and Jazzy flourishes underpin Adriana Evan's soulful vocals on her new CD "Walking with the light", a throwback to breezy seventies Soul.

Opening track "Waiting" has beautiful horns, piano and lush harmonies. "Suddenly" is a beautiful song of few words repeated, "Midnight" is a midtempo groovy number as is the lovely "Never thought" with muted trumpet. Similar is the sunny "El sol" with lyrics taking us to a place with "butterflies and sweet warm summer breeze" as she sings (fittingly) about basking in the sun.

Taking the tempo up some more is "Surrender" where she urges you to pretend you're free and dance. "Astral project" is a soothing instrumental ballad with the only vocals being harmonies.

"Let you get away" is a funky midtempo song with fiery vocals, while the title track is an upbeat string-swathed groove with a horn-rich chorus. In fact, horns feature prominently in this album. "Weatherman" is retro soul with lovely Shoo doos and reminds me of the classic "Mr big stuff".

For ballads, there's "Love me on the one", "Sooner or later" (with a very clear soothing vocal delivery), and "Set in stone". I really don't understand why she isn't as successful as artists like Jill Scott, or Maxwell, but this album can only further aid her ascent.

Classy!

????????????????????????????????? 26 May 2010
By S. Canty - Published on Amazon.com

For the other people who commented on Ms. Evans' fifth CD, don't u think she's not as popular because her music is hard to get a lot of the times and she doesn't perform around here? I've been loving Adriana Evans since I first saw her "Seein Is Believin" video. That was in the mid-90's. I love this super-talented woman, but can we get a sighting, Ms. Evans?????????????????????????
