4.0 out of 5 stars a classic remixed for better and worse 16 Jun 2003
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
If you want the remixes for this great song, you may as well buy the import version featuring all 10 (the vinyl releases may contain 1 or 2 more). None of the remixes capture the shock of the original (and there's a dispiriting sameness to them also), but PSB manage to project a sparkling pop sheen, and Tenaglia, Felix and FKEK deliver solid dancefloor tracks. Absolutely essential if you loved the original.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you missed it in the 1980s, don't miss it now 11 Oct 2003
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
I became a Yoko fan in my early teens in the late 1970s. In 1981 when "Walking on Thin Ice" came out on 45, I bought it and I thought it was brilliant. I still do. You would think more John Lennon fans would have wanted to hear the record that he and Yoko were working on the night he was killed, but no, "Walking on Thin Ice" was never listened to or appreciated like it should have been. This was the era of the early New Order, Depeche Mode, OMD, and Pet Shop Boys records. You would think "Walking on Thin Ice" would have fit right in. Was it not marketed properly? Maybe. But I remember calling a radio station to request it in the 1980s, during the naivete of my high school years, and being told "This radio station plays no Yoko Ono whatsoever." Now "Walking on Thin Ice" has been remixed and reissued, bright shiny and new, for the millennial dance floor. All the remixes bring creative inspiration to the song while remaining true to Yoko Ono's classic release. It's as haunting and enchanting as ever. And am I the only person in the world who's ever counted how many times Yoko sings "Ice!" on the original 45? "Ice! Ice! Ice! Ice!" 128 times. That's the date John Lennon died, 12-8 of 1980.

5.0 out of 5 stars YOKO RULES THE WORLD! 11 Jun 2003
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
Anything by the ever popular Yoko Ono automatically get my vote, but this cd will rock anybody not just Ono freaks. Dance the night away to the squeeks and screams of the worlds most unrecognized diva. Practically all the mixes are great obviosly the mixers have taste and a true love for Yokey Okey. Especially the Pet Shop Boys who have designed some of thier best copositions as of late and are rubbing thier gold dust all over the Thin Ice. By buying this single you are purchasing a ticket into the "know". You'll be so ahead of the curve and so on top, but not in a fake "I read this was cool" way. Yoko's influence has yet to be fully understood and is slowley being relized. Won't you be the envy of all your freinds when you pull out your "Walking On Thin Ice" single and you've known all along?!

5.0 out of 5 stars Yoko, the rest of the world is finally catching up 18 July 2003

I still have my "Walking On Thin Ice" 45 that I would play when I dj'd a disco party back in 1981. The original is one of the best songs of the 80's. The beginning guitar intro sucks you in like a funnel. Playing it in my car is like gliding above the clouds.

Anyhow, this ten version cd is overkill of the best kind. The variations have a similar dance theme but blend into interesting and diverse variations. I'll highlight my favorite tracks.

The first track, by the Pet Shop Boys, starts out very Giorgio Moroder of Donna Summers fame. The Pet Shop Boys use the same intoxicants to stimulate and surge every fibre of one's "I can't stop shaking my entire" being. The second track, by Danny Tenaglia, is a fast paced s l o w dance. It's the kind of beat one wants when dancing close to someone you really want to be intimate with. Track five, more Pet Shop Boys madness. Kind of music that would be great for a 360 degree surround film of one flying over clouds and mountains, etc. Lastly, track ten by Peter Rauhofer, this is the most innovative and brilliant reinterpretation of Yoko's "Walking On Thin Ice". When I listen to this one I can feel the chill of the ice hanging from the ceiling as I see my breath smoking and swirling through the frigid air (and I live in Florida). While all the versions offer something unique and of value, four of them are outstanding. Track ten is absolutely brilliant.

If Yoko is doing a dance cd as I've heard, I hope " Hell In Paradise" and "Cape Clear" are being considered as extended plays.
