I am a long-time dedicated Geoff Nicholson reader (I still think of him as my favourite author without hesitation, and Day Trips To The Desert as my favourite book) but I was disappointed by Walking In Ruins. Unfortunately his usual brilliant style is rather diluted, his reasoning (the biggest attraction for me) rather arbitrary, and the book is very poorly edited, with an unacceptably high number of typos or grammatical errors throughout. The subject matter is interesting, but I've come to expect much more from Nicholson's treatment of any subject than what he delivers here, and it saddens me to say so. By the way, if you like Nicholson, do read Hunters And Gatherers, The Food Chain, Everything And More, The Errol Flynn Novel, The Hollywood Dodo, Bedlam Burning. Also looking forward to his upcoming The City Under The Skin.
