Product Description

Product Description

Celtic spirituality has never been more popular - or relevant. In a time when we are increasingly divorced from the magical forces of nature and the spirit world that surround us, it can lead us back to an understanding of these forces and their power. Celtic spirituality speaks of a time when were less driven by the material, more spiritual, and more content. Inspirational yet practical, this book offers us exercises, hints and ideas for bringing Celtic wisdom to bear on our lives today. The author shows us how to find our personal sacred space and introduces us to the Celtic philosophy on everything from relationships, health and diet to work and possessions. This book guides us through the complex belief systems and culture of our Celtic forebears and brings their knowledge and worldview right up to date, giving us ancient wisdom to tranform our modern lives.

From the Author

Why I wrote this book:

From the mid-80’s I have been exploring areas like meditation, visiting sacred sites, Celtic music and history. But this was very much a personal experience and I never really thought very much about what I was experiencing or how, as I came to realise, I was being led along a path.

This changed one Halloween. This time of the year is one of the most powerful for the Celts when the veil between this world and the other is at its thinnest. This is the time when spirits can travel back and forth with most ease. And at dusk on these days, the energy is so strong at the Sacred Sites that even were you not aware and not seeking, you would still feel it.

As I meditated I was told strongly that the time had come for me to go out and talk to others about my experiences, not just to tell them what had happened to me but also to learn from them lessons that I needed. I was also shown that I was the Pathfinder, someone who could take all the different strands of academic work; personal experiences; popular interest and weave them together into a programme for others to follow.

I started organising talks and then workshops throughout the country. At these talks people would ask for recommendations of books for them to follow and I quickly came to realise that there is no "how to" book. There are excellent books that discuss ideas and books that look at the history of the Celts. There are even collections of poems and stories with a Celtic theme, but nothing that actually tells people how to bring Celtic understanding into their lives. Hence Walking the Mist was born.

A very unscary, accessible introduction to celtic spirituality that really strikes a chord. Distinctly lacking in mumbo jumbo and full of exercises and things to try so you can get stuck in right away, it should appeal to all. For example sacred sites are everywhere and Donald gives them plenty of attention in this book and you just know that he has been there, done that and now wants to share it with us all. I can't describe all the topics covered as it is jam packed with all kinds of snippets and anecdotes and bits and bobs to inspire. Do buy his celtic meditation CD as well if you can as it is wonderful, and try to catch one of his talks or workshops - well worth the time. Lovely - hope there is a follow up.

I was lucky enough to meet Donald on his book tour earlier this year. After listening to the talk he gave, and discussing the subject with him afterwards, I felt compelled to buy this book. I was not disappointed! It starts with an introduction as to why the author decided to write this book, and how he came upon the path of Celtic Spirituality. It then becomes three things, a tale of Donald's personal experiences on this path, a history of the Celtic People and their culture, along with a very clear cut guide for anyone to follow. It involves simple and effective meditations, how to work with your sacred envoirnment and quite simply how to change your life in for the better using this path. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in Celtic history, self improvement or even to just read a great, uplifting story of human spiritual discovery!

Having bought another book on Celtic Spirituality from Amazon, I bought this one as it was advertised as 'you might like this.'
I read the book in its entirity even though it did very little for me as it's interesting to know how other people think.
I doubt whether I would buy another recommendation from Amazon again!
