All the Remy Chandler books have storylines which are both un-putdownable and touching. With fantastic characters and a dog everyone would want the end of each story leaves you desperate for the appearance of the next book

4.0 out of 5 stars Walking in the Midst of Fire by Thomas E. Sniegoski 6 Aug 2013
By Star @ The Bibliophilic Book Blog - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Remy Chandler is truly settling back into his life, probably for the first time since losing his wife. He's got a girlfriend, Linda, who Marlowe (his dog) loves, too. Remy's also been able to integrate his angelic nature and his human guise a lot better than before when he used to repress it 100%. Yet, things never fail to be interesting for Remy when he's called to assist in discovering who murdered a general in Heaven's army. But the rabbit hole is deeper than even Remy could imagine and it's up to him to stop a war which would spill over on Earth...wiping out life as we know it.

Note: It's best to start at book 1 for this series, so you can follow the story better in this book.

`Walking in the Midst of Fire' is the sixth book in the Remy Chandler series. Remy's been drafted to find out why a high ranking angel has been murdered. He doesn't expect what he finds out at all. I really love this series and I'm happy to see Remy embracing his dual natures rather than totally suppressing his angelic side. I was also happy to see Mulvehill starting to come to terms with the world Remy inhabits. Marlowe's still my favorite (aside from Remy) as he always has some great doggy insights. `Walking in the Midst of Fire' is a great mystery and action-filled story with a very devious twist. I can't wait to see what the author has in store for Remy next!

Remy Chandler series: A Kiss Before the Apocalypse (1), Dancing on the Head of a Pin (2), Where Angels Fear to Tread (3), A Hundred Words for Hate (4), In the House of the Wicked (5), Walking In the Midst of Fire (6)

4.0 out of 5 stars Marks the beginning of another story arc 18 Oct 2013
By A Book Obsession.. - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Walking in the Midst of Fire by Thomas E. Sniegoski is the newest installment in the Remy Chandler series. As such, new readers may want to pick up an earlier book to familiarize themselves with the characters and ongoing plot of the series, but this marks the beginning of another story arc, and it's not that hard to jump in at this point without having to have more than relevant background information.

The basic elements that are important to remember are these: Remy Chandler is a seraph named "Remiel." He deserted Heaven when Lucifer and the other rebellious angels were banished, and now makes his living on Earth as a private investigator. Lately, he seems to be doing more to stop the latest world-ending disaster than finding lost spouses, and to top it off, he has PTSD and `Dissociative Identity Disorder.'

Remy is trying to make a quiet life for himself, date somebody Marlowe, his dog thinks is appropriate, and reconcile a human identity with his angelic side. Of course that doesn't last, because Heaven and the Legions of the Fallen are perpetually on the verge of another war. When a high-ranking general of Heaven is killed, Remy is called in to find out the identity of the culprit before there's yet another apocalypse.

There are flashbacks, a range of characters from Remy's past, and several povs, including Marlowe's, the dog, as well as a villain who isn't all pomp and glory, but has a long-range plan and a background that makes him interesting in his own right.

The story takes a while to get moving, and Remy's new love interest has a role to play, but it's the action and plot that stand out, along with the dark humor that is part of the series.

Be warned that the ending is something of a cliffhanger, but with another book in progress, the questions will be resolved eventually.

4.0 out of 5 stars Thomas E. Sniegoski's WALKING IN THE MIDST OF FIRE (Remy Chandler #6) has me burning for the answers in #7 27 Dec 2013
By Lori Parker - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Established readers saw a series story arc close with IN THE HOUSE OF THE WICKED (#5), but plot ends still dangled for Thomas E. Sniegoski to build upon - such as that pesky looming apocalypse - which lead to WALKING IN THE MIDST OF FIRE (#6). New readers can begin here, but they need to pay close attention to the relevant queues about Remy's past. I strongly encourage picking up a copy of A KISS BEFORE THE APOCALYPSE (#1) for the backstory and fountain of humor.

In this sixth volume, Remy investigates the death of an angel general with the help of old and new characters to the series. He's also courted by the Vatican to work for them, causing flashbacks to his past. A major player in the case become the Nephilim, which Remy is wholely unpreparred for to handle. This is also the first time Remy purposely seeks out a magic user as a safeguard and weapon together. It's quite a lot to manage while hiding from his girlfriend that he's an angel himself, that he can talk to (and understand) his dog, and his best friend is a fallen assassin angel on Satan's staff.

Hey, Remy... Trying to prevent the apocalypse by locking a door to hide a dead body... Seriously not going to work. Hope you've got a Plan B. And here's a hint: If the bad angels are out to get you, wouldn't they be after the nice, easy-to-kill human woman you've come to love?

The POV switches and flashbacks can make a muddle of the story at times, and the reason behind the lengthy non-Remy or non-present narratives don't always seem to have a purpose beyond vague subject association and book word count. However, the differing perspectives add layers to the plot at many points and to our understanding of Remy as a millennia-old angel.

Beware! Thomas E. Sniegoski is a purveyor of dark humor, sprinkles violence liberally throughout his novels, slow to get a book moving (but then the action doesn't stop), and just plain mean about making fans of Remy drool for the next heart-stopping paranormal thrill!

5.0 out of 5 stars Walking in the Midst of Fire (Remy Chandler Book 6) 27 Dec 2013
By Darkeva - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
The ever-expanding threat of war between Heaven and Hell is as big as ever and seems more imminent with each book that continues this fast-paced series. This time the Vatican wants to recruit the Archangel Remiel aka Remy Chandler to help track down a dangerous necromancer who has one of King Solomon’s rings, which gives him control over demons.

The Nephilim also come more into play, and definitely have a role in the Heaven and Hell saga which I don’t wish to spoil, but it does involve a big, epic showdown at the end. As always, Remy has the unfortunate curse of things always being out to get him, and near the end of the novel we get more of a cliffhanger in this regard. There are lots of unanswered questions, a great potential for where the series will continue, as things are getting more and more serious.

For die-hard fans of the series, "Walking in the Midst of Fire" is one of the best entries in the Remy Chandler books so far, and will be even more exciting than the book that preceded this one. Thomas Sniegoski continues to deliver entertaining, fast-paced, but also emotionally-charged stories with each Remy Chandler book and "Walking in the Midst of Fire" is no exception.
