As an effective focus for prayer and worship, labyrinths - temporary and permanent - are increasingly found in traditional and alternative church communities and at festivals like Greenbelt. This book provides a complete guide for beginner and seasoned labyrinth explorer alike. An accessible and inviting illustrated guide, it: traces the history of labyrinths in the Christian spiritual tradition, explores the different ways groups and individuals can use a labyrinth for prayer and reflection, gives instructions for creating small and large, simple and complex, temporary and permanent, indoor and outdoor labyrinths based on the most well known designs - e.g Chartres, Rouen and Amien cathedrals, and it provides outlines for spiritual exercises using the labyrinth. The author is creating a UK 'labyrinth centre' at Oxford for pilgrims and for training labyrinth facilitators.
About the Author
SALLY WELCH is an Anglican priest in Oxford. She trained as a labyrinth facilitator at Grace Cathedral, San Francisco, and is Labyrinth Advisor to the Reading Area of the Oxford Diocese Her book Making a Pilgrimage (Lion Hudson) was published in 2009.

Finally a fully Christian view!

An easy to read straight forward book that makes clear what a labyrinth is, and is not, solidly grounded on a foundation of Christianity. Her discussion on how to use a labyrinth and build a temporary one is clear and concise. I deeply appreciated the chapter on Liturgies. With this book in hand, I can now approach the directors of the retreat center (where I volunteer as a gardener) to begin the process of creating one of our own. Thank you Sally for bringing the Labyrinth back to a Christ centered place.
