Format: Paperback
An improved and extended 2014 edition of Edwards' comprehensive guide to walks on these three very different islands, first published in 2010. The book gives routes and descriptions of 15 walks, of which 14 are day walks and one is a challenging five-day backpacking expedition along the trackless west coast of Jura. So it is not accurate to describe this book, as one reviewer has, as 'more suitable for backpackers than the general walker'. Some of the day routes are circular, but others are necessarily linear, such as two of the finest routes on Jura, Evans' Walk and the walk to the Corryvreckan whirlpool. The maps, based on OS maps, are excellent. Warmly recommended.

Edwards knows Jura like the back of his hand, and condenses the best of this largely unknown yet spectacular Hebridean island in this guide. It is well structured and offers a range of walks varying in length. If you want to explore Jura then you need this guide in your rucksack - detailed descriptions of how to negotiate tricky coastal routes, recommendations on the climbing of its peaks and solid information on accommodation and transport make this book invaluable. Highly recommended.

I agree with the reviewer of the former edition on Kindle who said that this book is more suitable for back-packers than the general walker. Although there was some material I could use for non-linear walks, I would have liked more about routes for the individual hills as day walks, but that is my personal preference. The background information on the islands, as one would expect from a Cicerone Guide is good.
