Anyway I was walking down the road the other day and I said to my mate...... my idea of a good night out would be something like ' A Royal Variety Performance ' with an all star dream cast of top entertainers from years gone by.The familiar male big players would all be turned out smartly dressed with the customary velvet suits,fluffy shirts and dickie bows of course,leaning casually on microphone stands,just to give the impression and appearance that they really are true professionals.Tarby,Brucie,Bob Monkhouse,Tom O'Connor,Stan Boardman would all be there without question but the highlight for me and over shadowing them all would be my top of the bill and that would be ' top comedian ' Ted Chippington ! How I would enjoy watching the puzzled faces of the Royal entourage and guests particularly when the heckling started and see Ted deal with it in his own consummate fashion.Which comic these days can tell a joke without shouting, swearing or striding around the stage animated in the extreme, while Chippington ( the true pro that he is ) does the delivery bit with ease,bats away any abuse all from behind a microphone stand and lets the audience participation become part of his act.Chippington would end his Variety performance with his legendary ' One Mile ' joke , sing his classic cover of the Beatles ' She Loves You ' followed by an encore of ' Rocking with Rita ' ( included in this must have box set ) and exits the stage to understated ripples of applause.That my friends is how a true genius does the world of entertainment !
