Product Description

"The Walking Dead Chronicles: The Official Companion Book" is the only authorized, behind-the-scenes guide to season one of the new American television series, "The Walking Dead", which tells the story of a sheriff's deputy leading a band of survivors in a post-apocalyptic world overrun by the undead. The show, in its first year as an hour-long television drama broadcast in the U.S. by AMC, immediately captivated and terrified audiences worldwide, successfully translating the characters and storylines from the "New York Times" bestselling comic book to a new audience. "The Walking Dead Chronicles" is lavishly illustrated with never-before-seen sketches, unit photography, storyboards, set designs, makeup and visual effects shots, and page-to-screen comparisons of the comic and TV show. Featuring new interviews with series creator Robert Kirkman and executive producer Frank Darabont, as well as cast and crew, the book also includes sidebars that serve as a detailed episode guide to season one, reproducing trivia, backstories, character sheets from the show's 'bible', and hinting at what comes next for the comic and the television show, revealing new directions for the second season and beyond.

A well written book telling how the Walking Dead made it from comics to screen with input from Kirkman and Adlard and full of excellent illustrations and behind the scenes pictures. The make-up effects and CGI are interesting reading and the whole production process is covered also with interviews with cast and crew this is a must for fans of the comics and the tv show. What could have been an awesum pictorial display of how the comics were adapted into the TV series ends up like an old Readers Digest! Where are all the brilliant pictures of all the make ups - there are but a handful here!? WTF!!? ...there are pages and pages of theory and practice with wikid storyboards and comic adaption chapters that show great metamorphosis from comic to screen, but the irritating fuzzy 'old printed style' has made even trying to see the pictures that are here, difficult. WAYYYYY over art directed and stylized! 1 star for that! - this look may have worked for Deadwood - but us Walking Dead fans want to see clear, gory, pictures of ZOMBIES! NOT A FUZZY BLUR! What the hell happened here!? Reads more like a Supernatural Monthly Magazine only fuzzy!

An Excellent Reference for Fans who Want to Know the Hows, Whys, and Whos. 18 Dec 2011

Have you wondered why and how "The Walking Dead" ended up on AMC instead of another network? Are you interested in the thought process behind keeping Shane alive in the TV series well beyond the character in the comic? Would you like insight into how the actors feel about their characters and some of the events that take place? Do you want to know the ins and outs of some of the auditions for the main cast, the extras, and how the execs of the show secured locations such as downtown Atlanta? Well, this book provides answers to those questions and many more. One of my favorite aspects of this book is that it invites you into the minds of the execs of the show, such as Robert Kirkman, Frank Darabont, and Gale Ann Hurd. They all explain how they became involved with the show, and exactly what their evolving roles are. It makes it that much more satisfying to see them on the show "Talking Dead" which discusses the events of each episode. This book also details which scenes were altered post-production with digital effects, how it was done, who was involved, and the reasons why. An explanation was given as to how the music was composed, who was involved, how the process took place, and the reasons why. Throughout the book, there are constant comparisons between the comic and the TV series, written and illustrated. The sole focus, as far as the TV series is concerned, is on season one. I hope this is the first edition of multiple books with a focus on each individual season. If you can't get enough of "The Walking Dead," this book is a must-own.
