Product Description

Product Description

A guidebook to 45 contrasting day walks in the Brecon Beacons National Park, South Wales, UK, Europe, from centres including Llandovery, Brecon, Crickhowell, Abergavenny and Hay-on-Wye, covering the four main areas: Mynydd Du, Fforest Fawr, Brecon Beacons and the Black Mountains. The Brecon Beacons is a place of diverse landscapes - majestic valleys, dramatic waterfalls and high mountain peaks and ridges. The circular walks in this guide avoid the better-known routes to explore unfrequented wooded gorges and upland valleys and are suitable for all abilities and all seasons. The authors' aim is to offer the reader a 'solitary guided walk' - the opportunity to enjoy the wilderness, accompanied by all the geological, historical, botanical and other facts that a bevy of expert guides might provide. Routes are split into seven geographical groups and indexed for areas of interest and difficulty and the detailed route descriptions are packed with information for walkers and walk leaders. All illustrated with OS map extracts, geological diagrams and colour photographs.

ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS! 22 Aug 2002
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
This book has the ability to be used as your very own 'Personal Guide'. It was recommended to me by a work colleague as we both enjoy walking.

This book contains amazing detail of individual walks and includes many helpful tips and hints. For example, grid references, small maps, photography hints, glossary of Welsh words and names and many more.

The book is mainly divided up into sections of the routes available and these are divided as follows:

North-Eastern Valleys and Ridges

Eastern Valleys and Ridges
South-Western Valleys and Ridges
Fforest Fawr
Waterfall Country

It also contains detailed information on how to get to the starting point of each of the
many walks fully described in this book.

The vast amount of information in this pocket-sized book does not stop here! All of the walks described contains comments on geomorphology, hydrology, geology, botany, zoology, ecology, ornithology, archeology, local history, land-use and environmental issues.

Most importantly this book is easy to read and is broken up with many photographs, cross-section diagrams and maps etc. As you can obviously guess I am very impressed with this book however I haven't even read it all yet. Nevertheless I am enormously impressed and can not wait to finish it.

It will certainly encourage me to take a very well-thought out walk around the fascinating routes discovered amongst

This pocket-sized book featuring 45 walks is a great guide to exploring the Brecon Beacons. It contains a wide range of information, photographs, illustrations and maps. The outline of levels of difficulty of the walks towards the end of the book is also extremely useful along with contact details of information centres in the Brecon Beacons and information regarding the starting points of the walks.

Format:Paperback
This is an excellent guidebook with everything you need whether you are out for half a day, or on an extended walking tour - it makes it easy to choose a suitable circular walk or link together parts of walks to form a linear route. It has extracts from OS maps instead of confusing diagrams, clear reliable directions, interesting general information on geology, history, and wildlife, and enticing photographs. It also fits easily into a pocket!
