More About the Author

Berlie Doherty was born in Knotty Ash, Liverpool, the youngest of three children. She always wanted to be a writer, but when she was little there were many things she wanted to be - a singer, ballet dancer, air hostess, librarian... Her serious writing started at university, where she trained to be a teacher. Now she lives in an isolated cottage in the country and writes in a barn overlooking the Pennines. She says of her writing: "After I finish a book I'm quite sad because I feel grieved that I have lost someone close; a great deal of myself is in my books."

Format: Paperback
Very vivid collection of poems by an author who is able to bring words to life as images. I'm very glad that the collection has been repubslished. Many poems can also be used well as triggers for (young and adult) students of English to write their own poetry. The best thing however is if you can invite Berlie Doherty to read her own peotry. Her soft but clear voice reaches listeners easily.

I was amazed that I found this book in the used section, as it is now out of print and I wanted the poems for my lesson (I'm a teacher). I purchased on the 30th of August and received on the 2nd, what an excellent service! It only cost £2.50 as well! Well done Tori Gretton!
