Product Description

Book Description

A combined edition of two classic Bill Brysons - A WALK IN THE WOODS and DOWN UNDER.

Product Description

Combined in one block-buster of an omnibus now are Bryson's Down Under, an account of his memorable walk across Australia, and the irresistibly funny A Walk in the Woods, that tells of his lengthy stroll in the Appalachian mountains of America, with his old friend Stephen Katz.

Bill Bryson traversed the length and breadth of Australia to bring us Down Under. A household name, synonymous with laugh-out-loud humour, sniggering, and outbursts of chortling, Down Under is what's commonly known as the perennial classic. In the very same volume is a story of his walk down the longest continuous footpath in the world. The Appalachian Trail stretches along the East Coast of the United States, from Georgia to Maine, through some of the most arresting and celebrated landscapes in America - the Smoky Mountains, Shenandoah National Park, the Berkshire Hills of Massachusetts and the Great North Woods of Maine.

Read them both, now, together.

Reading this book with a mouthful of stitches, after having all of my wisdom teeth out was probably not a good idea! Compelled to laugh at every inch of the book, never has a book been so painful for being so good! His portrayal of his friend Stephen Katz will be sure to amuse you - whilst the book will also open your eyes to the wider world out there! Read in a day and a half, this book definately kept me in high spirits! Be wise - ignore any critics who may choose to disagree with me, read it! You won't be disappointed!

A superb read. I laughed out loud frequently and on trying to read parts out to friends I was unable to finish I was laughing so much. Both books are great: from 'A Walk in the Woods' you'll wonder how either of them survived (and realise how understanding his wife is), in'Down Under' you'll find out more facts about the hazards of Australia then you want, especially if you are about to eat Red Snapper.

Enjoy.

Me? I read a book, I give it away and never re-read again.

This book was different. I read, I laughed out loud, i re-read, I gave it away, I bought it again, I bought the rest of Bill Bryson's books and have kept them on my bookshelf.

Just buy it.
