Mary Stewart is well known as a writer of fiction for grown-ups, the Merlin books are probably her most widely read work. 'A Walk in Wolf Wood' is one of two books that she has written for children, the other being 'The Little Broomstick.'

'A Walk in Wolf Wood' is a haunting fairy tale. By turns of mystery and enchantment Mary Stewart casts an utterly compelling spell... I last read this many years ago and its effect still lingers on. I have always rated it as one of my favourite children's stories: right up with 'The Hobbit,' 'Tom's Midnight Garden,' and 'The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe.' It has a stylistic affinity with the Narnia books, certainly.

I cannot recommend this book highly enough. Please get it in stock!

I read this to my eight year old over the course of a week, and he loved it. We have magic, curses, children trying to right injustices in the face of overwelming odds and suspense by the bucket loads. It's well written and the narrative keeps moving along at a pace to keep early readers interested.

A walk in wolf woods is a magical book, full of excitment and enchantment, good v evil. The story centers around John and Margaret who are on a picnic with there parents, the see a man crying and follow him into wolf woods. They are then spirited back to the middle ages, the man has been placed under a spell which means that at midnight he turns into a vicious wolf and is hunted and feared by the locals. The children decided to help the wolf and try and break the magic spell and help good win the fight with evil. This review is based purley on my memory as I read this book as a child. It was the first book that inspired me and first gave me a passion for books. It is such and amazing book I am now looking to purchase it for my son - I think that in itself is a testament to the brilliance of this book. It inspired me now let it inspire you and your children.
