Review

..".fascinating...It's a very frank autobiography in comparison with the usual anodyne soccer book and Whelan is very open...it's that sensitivity that makes this book." --"Independent"

Very interesting book about Whelan and his development as a footballer who had a good career at Liverpool before dropping to the lower leagues.

Great Read 23 Feb. 2012
By JK - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
I am not the greatest reader of non-fiction but thoroughly enjoyed this book. It is about the golden years of Liverpool Football Club and, of course, Ronnie Whelan. He lived quite close to me in Finglas and also went to a local school. I followed his career and thought he was one of the most under rated players ever to play for liverpool and Ireland.

The book does not dwell too much on his early years, nor does it go into his personal life in any great detail. It concentrates on his life with LFC. Its an excellent read and I tried to prolong it as much as I could. That said, it's not high litriture but it is an honest account of the highs and lows he experienced during his Liverpool days.

I highly recommend it for any fan of Liverpool and for any fan of the Irish soccer team.
Nice easy reading 19 Mar. 2013

Very nice biography of one of my favorite Liverpool players from the 80s. Young football fans will probably not even know who Ron Whelan is but for those of us lucky enough to have seen Liverpool play during the 70s and 80s biographies such as this one bring back so many good memories from a bygone era. The author never dwells on any one particular issue and overall it's a nice, easy read.
