Product Description

Product Description

This pocket-sized full-colour guide is designed for short-break holidays around Nice with a gastronomic touch. Even if you're not a walker, it's worth having just for the restaurant suggestions, the excursions and the information about local food. The book describes two excursions for all-comers (including the superb narrow-gauge Train de Pignes into the hinterland), plus 12 easy to moderate walks in or easily accessible from Nice, all illustrated with 1:35,000 topographical maps. Each excursion or walk recommends at least one restaurant en route serving local cuisine, with photograph, price guide, opening times, sample menus, and recipes for some of their specialities. Other sections include: planning your trip, getting about, food shopping (including health foods and local markets), glossary of food terms and restaurant mini-vocabulary. A special feature is the emphasis on natural local foods suitable for those with food intolerances. All recipes have been made by the authors and are known to 'work'. On-line updates keep readers abreast of route/restaurant changes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect to work up an appetite, 5 Sep 2011
This review is from: Walk and Eat Nice (Paperback)
Just discovered this gem of a book while on holiday in Cote d'azur - this book was a revelation - it provided just what we wanted: walking routes around some of the most attractive coastal and inland locations near Nice. On top it gave some great tips about restaurants along these routes (in most price brackets).

Without this book, we would not have been able to fit into our airplane seats for the return journey! You can eat well near Nice, but its good to get away from the bustle of cars, mopeds, buses too, without having to resort to ordinance survey trails.

This book does suggest more that a stroll along the promenade des anglais in Nice - but every other guide book has this covered any way.

Cap Ferrat walk was great - shame we didn't know about the book when we got lost in Cap Martin in searing heat!

Walk / Eat is a niche book; great format, easy to use, light to carry on walk, usable maps. Hope the authors are considering other locations too.

3.0 out of 5 stars not a book for the casual sightseer in flipflops, 7 Jun 2010
By
This review is from: Walk and Eat Nice (Paperback)
This is not a guide to easy strolls round the sights of the city centre for the casual tourist. Click on 'click to LOOK INSIDE.' Then search 'inside this book' for 'rucksack.' This will give you the link to lead you to page 9 of the book's introduction describing the sort of walks they have in mind for their readers. The opportunities for the serious hiker in walking boots in and around Nice are surprisingly good!

5.0 out of 5 stars Really hand little book, 17 Jan 2012
This review is from: Walk and Eat Nice (Paperback)
For anyone going to Nice for a weekend or longer, this is a really useful little book to have. There are lots of interesting ideas for walks and places to eat out that you wouldn't otherwise know about. It allows you to explore Nice a lot further than the Carre D'Or !
