Review

An alluring appreciation of the Lake District and its heritage. (Grange Now! )

Hunter's account has retained its sparkle and high interest level. If you haven't already read this book, it is one well worth adding to your book shelves. (Keswick Reminder )

You do not have to be a walker to appreciate this illuminating and amusing book. The prose crackles with wit and colour, creating a fine account of an inspiring part of England. (Sunday Telegraph )

A Love of Lakeland 25 July 2010
By Hobo
Format:Paperback
I believe that this book was originally published in 1979, I well remember my hardcopy I read in the early eighties because it was such an enjoyable read. There is little doubt the author loves the region as do I. This book is just as much a guide to the Lake District as it is a walking journal. Based around the Lake poets, in particular Wordsworth it also features Ruskin,Beatrix Potter and other notables along with local characters he meets on his journey.Although some thirty years old now it still evokes a sense of Peace, nostalgia and the beauty of the lakes as well as being a useful reference book e.g Bonningtons best climbs,Wainwrights fells, places to visit etc.
Don't be put off that it was first written some time ago, its still an excellent read today as it was then and it will make you want to don your boots and get out there. A joy for the walker, historian, artist and poet inside everyone.
