5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful book 6 Dec 2011
By ragle76
I got this book for my daughter, not because I ascribe to the Waldorf Steiner teachings, but because a friend of mine had shown me her son's. My daughter is completely transfixed by the beautiful pictures, and the detail within each depicted letter. She is not only becoming familiar with the shape and sounds of the letters of the alphabet, but it has also increased her vocabulary (and mine!). This is a book she goes back to time and time again. She is only 23 months old, and I don't want her to learn the alphabet just yet, but I do want her to get a feel for what letters are, what they look like and their different sounds. She obviously can't say her abc's, but she enjoys the pictures on her own, and she enjoys naming the pictures and talking about what she sees on the page with me. It's a beautiful book, and one I don't think any person would be disappointed with, supporter of Steiner or not.

4.0 out of 5 stars Stunning artwork 20 Jan 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
It's a joy to look through the artwork for this book, but I was expecting something different from what usual alphabet books offer - I have others that are not Waldorf and based on the same principle. Still it will be very useful.

By H. Hawkes - Published on Amazon.com
This is a great "A,B,C" book. It is sort of like "I spy with my little eye..." there are all sorts of things hidden and not so hidden in the pictures (which are just lovely to look at). my kids and I really enjoy this book.

We just received this book as a gift for our toddler. The letter-themed illustrations are lovely. We've been having fun discovering the letters together.

5.0 out of 5 stars waldorf alphabet book 21 Mar 2011
By genifa - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
my preschool children (3 and 4) have been very interested in the alphabet, self-initiated. they had started writing a few letters and were asking for more. i ordered this book for some ideas on presenting the letters and how they looked. i wanted to keep our "lessons" very informal for the time being, and still initiated by them. i looked at the book and liked it just fine and it did give me some ideas. however, they looked at the book too - and LOVE IT! not even any words but they ask for it for bedtime story! we'll be using this one for a while.

3.0 out of 5 stars lively warm drawings, BUT W for witches with warts! 27 April 2012
By Maine Mama - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I thought the book would have more words in it not just "A is for . . ." and a drawing on the next page.

I liked the fairy folk and nature spirits in the drawings, BUT did not like "W is for Witches with warts". I feel that it is perpetuating prejudice and intolerance toward Pagans. I also would have preferred that the Native American was not in I for Indian, but at least the drawing is not offensive (to me). The drawing is not a cartoony drawing with stereotypical imagery, like the witch with warts on a broom stick. I will be pasting a drawing over this page.
