I got this book for my daughter, not because I ascribe to the Waldorf Steiner teachings, but because a friend of mine had shown me her son's. My daughter is completely transfixed by the beautiful pictures, and the detail within each depicted letter. She is not only becoming familiar with the shape and sounds of the letters of the alphabet, but it has also increased her vocabulary (and mine!). This is a book she goes back to time and time again. She is only 23 months old, and I don't want her to learn the alphabet just yet, but I do want her to get a feel for what letters are, what they look like and their different sounds. She obviously can't say her abc's, but she enjoys the pictures on her own, and she enjoys naming the pictures and talking about what she sees on the page with me. It's a beautiful book, and one I don't think any person would be disappointed with, supporter of Steiner or not.
