Product Description

Ermin’s epoch of separation is nearing its end. From captive to cavalry commander in the legions of Augustus, Ermin has inspired soldiers and generals with his heroism. His name, too, has changed. They call him Arminius.

Back in the forests of his youth, what remains of Arminius’ people capitulate. Mighty Rome has won. There is nothing left with which to fight. The men and women who provided the spark in earlier failed rebellions are exhausted. They transform from warriors to citizens. Rome transitions from conqueror to governor.

But a glowing ember may be borne on the wind and travel over long distances. In another part of the empire, as General Tiberius leads two massive armies, a set of former tribesmen hope to slough off their Roman masters. Will their revolt become the tinder that enables all of the wald to become free?

As Arminius, with horse and steel, serves the emperor, the path foreseen long ago by the priestess Rike rolls out before him. He hurtles back toward his father, his friend, Berengar, and his betrothed, Thusnelda. His fate and destiny propel him ever onward to what will be the most epic military engagement in all of human history.

About the Author

Jason Born is the author of The Wald Chronicles, a research-intensive set of historical novels detailing the Germanic tribesmen and their struggle against Rome. All three books in the series - The Wald, Wald Afire, & Wald Vengeance - are available now. He is also the author of The Norseman Chronicles, a scrupulously researched set of historical novels telling the story of the Viking, Halldorr, who simply desired a warm hearth and a plump wife. Jason lives with his own plump wife and three skinny children in Ohio. By day he works as an analyst and portfolio manager for a private Registered Investment Advisory firm. After dinner and on weekends he reads voraciously, finding time to write - which has become a maniacal obsession. He is currently hard at work writing his seventh historical novel.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good ending 14 April 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I found reading this trilogy that the tale improved with each book this one being the best. I was new to Jason Born's books but will find my way to more very soon. A good book to read but better if you read all three well worded and a good flow.

Sorry the tale is over. An excellent story, well written. It has made me look for more historical tales on this region during Roman Period.

4.0 out of 5 stars Resolution 6 Jun. 2014

The final part is a little laboured for me. However I enjoy Mr Born his writing plots and characters. As historical novels go not brilliant but the Wald series has given me much enjoyment and learning. Thanks Jace

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant 28 May 2014

I thought this was a fantastic description of the build up to the final battle in the wald..Maybe there was a bit of license, but on the whole, realistic and as far as history is concerned, accurate.

3.0 out of 5 stars Steady but unspectacular 26 May 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
A decent conclusion to the Wald trilogy but lacking something compared to the earlier volumes. My involvement with the characters s was somehow lessened this time round. The emotions and divided loyalties of several protagonists seemed forced and unrealistic at times. As we approached the inevitable conclusion I had the feeling that I wished they would hurry up and get on with things. A well written series that just lacks that vital spark that would set it apart from the pack.

The book is ok a bit slow moving but has a fairly good story line but you have to read the series to understand the whats going on.
