From the Author

I highly recommend this lovely new version of my book as I worked hard to make it much more cohesive, meaningful and lyrical than the original. And the publishers have done a wonderful job too, as they operate with great care and a passion for their productions. The stories in this book can stand alone as magical tales of transformation so do try it even if you haven't got a deck to go with it. Or it can be used in conjunction with my Wild Spirit tarot; now sadly out of print but still available either new at collector's prices or second hand here on Amazon. You can also buy the book and deck together as a limited edition set. Please see the author's website for more details poppypalin.org Thanks for reading and ENJOY THE WILD SPIRIT!

5.0 out of 5 stars Waking The Wild Spirit 30 Mar 2005
By Clare VINE™ VOICE
Format:Paperback
This is a very beautiful tarot deck and one ideal for pagans I feel. This is slightly different to what I would call normal Tarot the images are very nature based.

The accompanying book also deviates from the mainsream in that each card has its own story, which I think is a good idea as in some ways it can help you understand the cards a little easier.

The names of the major arcana is different than normal:

Fool - Wandering Minstrel
Magician - Cunning Man
High Priestess - Wise woman
Empress - Mother Nature
Emperor - Lord of the Wild
High Priest - Interpreter
Lovers - Soul Mates
Chariot - Hunter
Strength - Natural Force
Hermit - Healer
Wheel - Dance of Life
Justice - Hooded One
Hanged Man - Silence
Death - Rebirth
Temperance - Inner Child
Devil - Fiddler
Tower - Lightning Tree
Star - Source
Moon - Mother Two Moons
Sun - Sky Dancer
Judgement - Transformation
World - Reaper

I have found since learning this one that has been quite an obstacle as I am fairly new to Tarot learning one way and then these cards being slighly different can be a bit confusing but, even so that woyuld not put me off using these cards.

The Minor Arcana is different as well:

Swords - Air
Wands - Fire
Cups - Water
Pentacles - Earth

These give these a very Pagan flavour which I liked, and in some ways maybe someone who is Pagan but, hasn't used Tarot before may find those easier to work with.

The cards are quite a large size, I compare them to my Gilded Tarot which is a good size to work with but, these are quite good. The images on the back of the cards are really nice and pleasing on the eye too.

I would highly recommend this deck.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unique and intuitive 28 Dec 2004
Format:Paperback
I own a number of tarot decks - some are much loved and some are just pretty pictures. The Wild Spirit Tarot is the only one which actually speaks to me. The artistry is beautiful, but I had come to expect this of Poppy's work. I was not sure, however, that the artistry would lend itself to soul searching, personal growth and divination. I was wrong - this will be the deck which I use from now on.

5.0 out of 5 stars A beautiful and troubling deck 4 May 2002
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
Most tarot designs are simply rehashed versions of the Waite-Rider pack which was designed almost a hundred years ago. Most of the accompanying booklets simply churn out the same unreadable interpretations. However, Poppy Palin's designs are unique, and occasionally troubling - shocking your awareness like the wild nature spirits which seem to have inspired them. And instead of the usual tedious and invariably pompous analyses, she gives us a story for each one - stories which in themselves act on different levels, and have their own impact quite independent of the images.
An extraordinary (and very beautiful) achievement.
