Reviews

All eight episodes from the second series of the British television police drama about the members of the Cold Case team, dedicated police officers who use cutting-edge forensic technology and old-fashioned police work to reinvestigate old cases where every lead has come to a dead end. In this series, the team try to hunt down a long-dormant serial killer known as The Gambler, and infiltrate the dangerous world of London's gangland. Episodes are: 'Life Sentence (Parts 1 and 2)'; 'Deathwatch (Parts 1 and 2)'; 'Special Relationship (Parts 1 and 2)'; and 'Thin Air (Parts 1 and 2)'.

'Waking the Dead' is probably the best detective drama that has ever been made, and holds this title justifiably because it is so markedly different from other alternatives.

This series is, in a word, stunning. The plots of the episodes are tightly controlled, filled with tension, and the wonderful dynamic between Sue Johnston's calm, pragmatic psychologist and Trevor Eve's manic, instinctive Superintendant make the series worth watching on its own. Although a few episodes in the first series were somewhat weaker than the main, you can't find any holes in this series. Every episode is simply riveting.

Roll on series 3 on DVD, and I have noted that the BBC have started filming a sixth series. This kind of drama justifies why you pay your TV licence.

Waking the dead series 2 maintains the series high quality, being even better than its first outing. There is not one bad episode on this four disc set. It contains all four stories from series 2. the interplay between the characters is really good in this series; especially the chemistry with Boyd (Trevor Eve) and Grace (Sue Johnston.) We can also see Spence and Mel becoming closer and Frankie really gets involved also. The cold case team reopen four more cases, and they are all brill.

The first episode "Life Sentence" was really gripping, gaining a rating of "Excellent." The plot is fantastic in this one nad the villian actor is superb - one of the best.

Episode two "Deathwatch" is the weakest of the four stories, being too convulted, but it got "Good." This was quite a nice installment in the series and you were constantly guessing and learnt more as the story unfolded. Not my favourite, but still great.

The third two-part story is absoloutely fantastic. "Special Relationship" achieved the rating of "Excellent", it was really well done and it was really hard to work out what was going on and who was killing as there were so many to choose from.

And now we come to one of the best in the series, the final story "Thin Air" is faultless. It got "Outstanding", which is the highest rating. The story, the acting, the character development, the twists and story-telling was at its best here. Top-notch Waking the dead, I was totally enthralled.

I loved this series of Waking the dead and hope for the third series to be even better! You can't get enough of these shows, you may find yourself wathcing several discs a day. Waking the dead is crime drama at its finest, with a direct approach to deduction and evidence. This show is on par with "Wire in the blood", I can't seperate the two (I have done a review on the Wire in the blood complete box set.) Just buy thsi show, buy the whole series, I can't get enough of it...

Another wonderful series from the WTD team. I would highly recommend this series. It's a terrible shame that the BBC has just confirmed that there will be no more made after Series 9. Another wonderful series goes the way of Inspector Lynley et al... Brilliant service from Amazon as normal.

This must certainly be one of the best series the BBC has ever produced. Great cast, fast-paced directing, edge-of-seat storylines, no misfires whatsoever. DVD's come with no extra's. But better this way, than making up silly extra's, like the continuing 'look how great we are'-extra's on the CSI-sets or the 'we-could-have-done-without-this'-extra's that come with 'Midsomer Murders'

I already have the DVD sets for series 3 to 9. These being the series which have been transmitted in the UK since we expatted to Greece. I'm considering buying series 1 and 2 to complete the set.
So. I've just taken a look at the picture showing the sleeve of the second series and I couldn't help noticing that the lovely Holly Aird is credited as Holly Aired! Oops.
It reminds me of when (too many years ago to remember) I bought an LP (that's a large vinyl circular thingy in a cardboard sleeve) of Mike Oldfield's "Tubular Bells". The only thing was that the title printed on the spine of the sleeve was "Tabular Bells"! I've always wondered if it may have had some value if I had kept it.
