From NEW YORK TIMES bestselling romance author Kasey Michaels comes the first in her LOVE IN THE REGENCY series.

SINS OF THE FATHER...

Jack Coltrane grew up with his father's red-haired tomboy ward Meredith Fairfax chasing after him, always begging to tag along in his adventures during the years they resided at Coltrane House. Jack was variously annoyed, flattered, and as the years passed and childhood faded, both he and Merry sensed a slow change in their relationship.

Friendship, blossoming into love. Love for each other, and a combined love for Coltrane House, fast falling into disrepair by his neglectful father. But one day the estate would be his, and Jack and Merry would make it beautiful again, raise their children there, and live happily ever after.

Theirs was the perfect dream, until Jack's father took him aside to tell him something that sent his son fleeing from Coltrane House, away from Merry, perhaps never to return. Ah, love... why is it never easy?

Oh... and then there's Jack's quite singular friend from America, and possibly a pair of matchmaking ghosts. Ghosts? Well, certainly - why not? Everyone loves a happy ending!

4.0 out of 5 stars Jack and Merry - Passionate Hearts 21 Aug. 2014
    Format:Kindle Edition
I agree with the reviewer who stated the second book in this series Someone to Love (Love in the Regency Book 2) is a better story which for some reason I read first. However, if I had it to do over, I would definitely have read Waiting for You (Love in the Regency Book 1) first. Although I am giving this book four stars, I had some issues with this book based on the following:

#1 - I don't particularly care about a storyline that gives so much dialogue over to the minor characters such as Ms. Michaels did with Clancy and Cluny - the Shakespearean actors who basically raised the H/h. Clancy and Cluny were wonderful fellows, but to me, they eventually took away from the storyline. I found myself actually skimming through much of their dialogue.

#2 - The storyline was a little on the dark side for me. August Coltrane was an evil man who brought debauched gatherings into his home, the servants would flee and leave August's son, Jack (6 years old) and his ward, Merry (six months old) alone in the nursery with Jack having to sneak food from the kitchens and take care of all of Merry's needs. Jack learned to fear and hate his father from an early age. But, he loved Merry with a passion that would never leave his heart.

Clancy and Cluny come into their lives early on and decide to stay and take care of Jack and Merry since "Awful August" is never at home except for a couple of weeks each year.

I read this a couple of weeks ago and have forgotten what it's about so it didn't make a big impression on me. O.K for a quick read.
