An Excellent Phone - Sleak and Stylish. Try this., 1 Oct 2005

This review is from: Waitec E-ZI VOIP Skype Cyper Phone with LCD (Electronics)
I couldn't decide between the Waitec VOIP phone and the TEDIM VOIP Ex-B phone but I decided to opt for something around the £20 mark with a USB connection, without splashing out on some of the more luxurious VOIP and DECT phones which looked rather pricey.
Those that I found on Amazon within my price range, and a decent look, included the Waitec and TEDIM. Both use different software; Waitec the SkypeMate software and the TEDIM Skype Bee. Anyway, I bought both as I reckoned I could leave one at home whilst I took the other on my travels overseas.
I have to say that the Waitec phone is streets ahead of the TEDIM phone and is generally sleaker. The sofware which works seamlessly with Skype also gives you a choice of around 10 ring tones. The Skype Bee driver and skype@phone software that comes with the TEDIM does not provide anything near the same functionality on what is a chunkier/heavier phone.
The packaging, look and feel of the Waitec will make you feel that your money was well worth spent. With the TEDIM, at the same price of around £20, I felt rather disappointed with a phone offering a loud single ringtone.
In terms of ease of use, the Waitec is also far superior. The call and hang up options on the TEDIM will throw you.
In terms of user instructions, the Waitec phone comes with a simple User Manual with more more on the disk. The TEDIM quick start guide provides 4 bullet points with nothing else useful on the disk.

Works great, 5 Oct 2005

Brilliant phone. Within minutes I'd opened Skype account and got it talking to this phone. The SkypeMate software allows the phone to interface with skype (so when you press buttons on the phone, SkypeMate sends them through to Skype).
Also works with VOIPBuster (seeing as it's a SIP VOIP phone). All I need now is an equivallent piece of software to make the phone's buttons do something! It's basically just a speaker and microphone without SkypeMate (or equivalent).
Very good quality.

Good, but not perfect, 1 Oct 2008
This review is from: Waitec E-ZI VOIP Skype Cyper Phone with LCD (Electronics)
For the price this is excellent value. It was easy to install and is simple to use, operating as you'd expect (eg: press the numbers, the Skype window opens, and it starts dialling the numbers). The sound is very clear and the USB cable is a convenient length.
Slight quibbles are that, obviously, it uses another USB slot (nothing can be done about that, apart from using a USB hub or buying a bluetooth phone instead). Also, there is no volume control on the handset, so the earpiece volume has to be adjusted on the PC. An installation problem is that other computer sounds (eg: music) automatically got diverted into the Skype handset - but after this was reconfigured in the media player options, music went to the PC speakers and the Skype handset still worked fine.
Recommended.
