About the Author
Robert Doyle was the creator of the animation program at the restoration of the 18th century Fortress Louisbourg in Nova Scotia. He went on to create Canada's first and only Costume Studies Program at Dalhousie University in Nova Scotia.
Thirty years of research and teaching has produced this extraordinary work; shedding new light on this ancient garment, now entering a new renaissance in contemporary theatre and fashion.

Although I can't afford to buy this book I did borrow it continually from the library! It has a wealth of information on the alteration of corsets to fit each body shape and basic blocks. The historical emphasis is detailed and useful and although I am only an amateur I learned a great deal from this. This book would be especially useful for fashion design students but don't expect it to hold your hand on the design aspects as it won't deliver. All in all the professionals choice.

This book is written in a difficult style (a few typos, odd grammar, etc.), but is a wonderful resource none-the-less. The technique given for drafting corset patterns on the body is unusual and interesting. The photographs are amazing too, keep your eyes peeled for the copper maidens!
