AT last a pair of scales that weighs liquid,no more messing about with jugs. Beauty is you weigh your ingredient then zero and add next measure of ingredient. You dont have to add up in your head and it saves using many bowls.Added bonus you know what time it is because these scales hang up and have a clock and alarm. Looks very stylish. Daughter so impressed she purchased one. Well done James!

These scales are attractively styled in brushed steel - they are easy to wipe clean (which is just as well, as the slightest touch leaves the most glaringly obvious of fingerprints behind), and are about the size of an A5 piece of paper.

They also function as a clock and a room temperature gauge, and are designed to be hung on the wall. The LCD is not backlit, which makes the display difficult to read from a distance, especially if the kitchen lights are facing the wrong way (I have directional spotlights). It has a very unpleasant sound to the alarm clock function. The display is touch-sensitive, and large enough to operate without difficulty. I found that during baking, fingers had to be very clean or else the display became impossible to use.

They display measurements in both metric and imperial forms, although the 1/4 becomes 0.2 rather than 0.25, due to there only being one decimal place available, which I've had to lop a star off for.

My partner has expressed misgivings about the clock display, as she'd rather just have the option to turn the thing off and save the battery life, but there doesn't appear to be an off switch.

A good value, space-saving option which does perhaps a bit too much - maybe it should concentrate on accurate measurements rather than all the other bells and whistles it boasts...?

EDIT 30-01-11: The scales are telling me that the batteries need to be replaced - the words 'LO' appear when I try to use them. It's slightly irritating, as they haven't been used *that* much. Seven months' life for the batteries? Is that good or not? I'll leave that for you to decide!

Fingerprint magnet! 30 Dec 2009

I ordered these scales because they were the only ones I could find that could be hung on the wall and because the previous reviewer confirmed that they are easy to clean. But I find the brushed stainless steel a dreadful fingerprint magnet and quite difficult to clean without leaving the odd fingerprint behind!

Yes, it can weigh in both metric or imperial units. But when weighing in imperial units it uses a single (Metric) decimal point to display fractions of an ounce (eg. 6.2 ounces) instead of displaying imperial fractions (eg. 6 1/4 ounces). This may be a slightly more precise way of displaying the imperial weight - except that it only goes to one decimal point so cannot therefore accurately weigh 1/4 or 3/4! But I prefer imperial weights to be displayed in imperial fractions not in decimal points! And whichever system you use, the symbol for it next to the number on the display is far too small to see unless you are lucky enough to have excellent vision!

Changing between metric and imperial units can be done from the top of the scales by "pressing and holding the unit symbol for 3 seconds". But if you fail to hold it for the required 3 seconds, it changes to water and then milk volume instead! No doubt one will get used to pressing it correctly - but it can be quite frustrating at first!

The scales try to be all-singing and all-dancing by featuring a built-in clock and timer and as well as a temperature gauge. But does one really need a clock and a temperature gauge on a set of kitchen scales? Personally, I'd prefer them just to weigh ingredients!

Slow to react
These scales look good and it's handy that they hang up out the way, but they are pretty slow to react when you are weighing, I've had them for over a year and it still annoys me. Read more

Impressive
We are very pleased with these scales - they look good, hang nicely on the wall and work effectively. Particularly like that you can weigh multiple items in the same bowl.
