Great: Inspirational and motivating, but not 'happy-clappy',
By Chris Tetley (UK) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Wage Slave to Financial Freedom: How the Right Property Investment Strategy Helped a First Time Buyer Escape the Corporate Rat Race (Paperback)
I `dipped into' this book recently, and due to its commendable brevity (in both senses of the word), ended up reading it all in one go.The author is a self-confessed everyman, who explains, in straightforward language, how he managed to carve out a new, self-employed, work direction and in so doing built up a substantial property rental portfolio, achieving financial independence by his early thirties. You may be thinking, `what is someone so young doing writing an autobiography?' Well, this is not an autobiography, and those of us wanting to escape the wage-slave existence should be glad it isn't - we need to know this stuff now, not in 30 years! It is however, an autobiographical account of Neil's formative years in business, which I found both remarkable and inspiring. You can of course, read books by business heavyweights such as Richard Branson, Lord Sugar, Duncan Bannatyne etc. etc. and in fact, Neil recommends that you do, - as he says "Success Leaves Clues", but I found the simple philosophy and unpretentious outlook on life and business contained in this short book as refreshing as it was practical. I would especially recommend this as a good read for those needing a motivational shot in the arm. You think, `if he has done it, then maybe I can too' - as his friend and mentor Nick Carlile of Platinum Property puts it, early in the book, "There is nothing special about Neil".

The secrets of becoming your own boss,
By
This review is from: Wage Slave to Financial Freedom: How the Right Property Investment Strategy Helped a First Time Buyer Escape the Corporate Rat Race (Paperback)
In this book Neil shares the secrets of his own investment strategy and gives useful and practical insights into how anybody can follow the same route and build up a successful HMO business from scratch for themselves. I am involved in property myself and I was not really aware of how successful an HMO strategy could be.The book tracks the growth of his business from scratch, and contains practical business advice that can help budding entrepreneurs on their way, as well as showing how a really strong business model can be built on his investment strategy which even the most successful property developers can pick up a few new ideas from. Even if property isn't your thing but you like a good success story, you'll get a real motivational shot in the arm from reading this and be planning your escape from the 9 to 5... Highly recommended.

Inspiring and practical tips on achieving your goals,
This review is from: Wage Slave to Financial Freedom: How the Right Property Investment Strategy Helped a First Time Buyer Escape the Corporate Rat Race (Paperback)
As well as giving lots of tips on property investing, this book is a fascinating account of how to make a career change, expand your personal capabilities and achieve a successful future in a completely new direction. Neil provides a very personal and practical perspective of how he has achieved all of these. His story is a great inspiration for how we can all stretch way beyond our comfort zones in the pursuit of personal goals. In Neil's case, these goals were financial freedom from developing a successful property business. This book is a helpful and inspiring account of key tips to put into practice in our lives as we all drive towards our own personal goals, whether in property or something completely different.
