This book shows the changes throughout the history of Waffen SS in the style of clothing whether due to lack of resources or differences in tactics. For example the tunic used early in the war over the uniform was changed during 1943 to uniform of the same colours. From 1944 on shortage supply comes out as worse fabrics were used and number of pockets being reduced. The book also includes several details of these changes and examples of western, nordic and eastern nation's volunteer's clothing and marking. There are also SS clothes from russian museums which is rare. The book also handles the way the clothes were signed by the tailors and where they were made.
This book doesn't include battle scenes but instead demonstrates the changes of uniform during wartime and also shows many examples of foreign volunteer soldiers'uniforms, the clothes being in great shape and pictures sharp, while several little pictures indicate the little differences in the inner clothing or elsewhere. However this book is only for the collectors or those heavily interested as it doesn't include material of battles or such

Both authors have done a remarkable job with this amazing book. They understand perfectly well what collectors are looking for: crystal clear pictures and essential comments. Let the pictures speak for themselves... And that's exactly the case. Whilst some might question the need for yet another reference book on German uniforms, insignia and equipment, this publication has tried a very original approach, and the Aussie duo have been able to cover almost all important features of what is widely accepted as being a rather complex subject. The quality of the pictures and especially the colours, is absolutely stunning. To give a typical example: I found the double page with the shoulder boards of great interest as it proves that a wide variety of manufacturing methods existed at the time. The same applies to the collar patches. It is the authors' great merit that they have stuck to the essentials, and resisted the temptation to get swamped in exceptions which surely was a danger with such complex matter. As such this work is an absolute must for every serious collector who will appreciate the fact that this excellent format book will help enormously to make the distinction between the genuine and the fake... And finally, the pricetag of this book should be the last reason for not buying it! Well done mates!
