Product Description

“It’s raining and the reflections of the red and white lights are dancing off the buildings as we race down the wet streets. Sirens are screaming a warning to the very few people who dare to walk the street at night.

We make a final turn and the scene comes into view. There’s a lone police car; its light bar extinguished so as not to call attention to itself. We follow suit and shut our lights and siren off as we approach. In the center of the rain-soaked street, a crowd has gathered. A woman is screaming, being held up by friends or family. A man lies crumpled in the middle of the road next to his wheelchair. The cop looks nervous as we roll to a stop and exit the ambulance. ‘He’s been shot – a lot,’ he shouts from about 10 feet away.

The decibel level immediately increases from the crowd of distraught onlookers. We know we’re going to have to work quickly to try to save the patient and get away from the scene for our own safety. We grab the heart monitor, oxygen, trauma bag and the stretcher for the fourth time this shift and once again go wading into chaos…”

Paramedics and EMTs are the front line of the world’s emergency medical system and serve as eyewitnesses to some of life’s most precious and equally most tragic moments.

Wading Into Chaos, written by a veteran paramedic, gives you a first hand, real life glimpse inside the chaotic world of Emergency Medical Services. Ride along and experience the emotions, the frustration, the sadness and the dark humor that accompanies responding to fatal car crashes, 14-year-old suicides, inner city gang violence, train accidents, med-e-vac helicopter landings, and the forgotten elderly who just need someone to talk to.

5.0 out of 5 stars Glad to see someone sharing what we see... 7 Jan 2013
By JBurgEMT - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
The book is a good read, but more importantly, I think it's key that someone is finally putting out their own personal stories to show the everyday person, first hand, the sacrifices we make in the streets. We are out there day in and day out, and I think Bob really helped portray a "day-in-the-life" of an EMT. Hope more EMS professionals can get a hold of the book.

I'm not yet done reading this book but I love it. The descriptions of the calls are so well written it feels like I am there. Not for the squeamish though!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great book even for non-EMS types 15 Jun 2013
By Derick Hopkins - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
This was a very enjoyable book to read. The stories told keep you turning the pages and wanting to get back to it. On top of that some complex issues are addressed such as work and relationships, the ways we all can isolate ourselves, the pure difficulty and chaos our EMS services face. The book also carries a motivational message without being preachy or over zealous. Makes me wish I had followed my first dreams of being a paramedic

If you like reading about life as a Paramedic, this book is for you. After reading this book you will understand just how difficult a job these men and women have both from a personal as well professional perspective. The next time you see a Paramedic, thank them for their service.
5.0 out of 5 stars Kept Me on the Edge of My Seat 2 May 2014

Wow.....just wow! This book is so gripping and filled with action. It usually takes me a while to read a 300 page book but I read this one in two days. Bob made me feel like I was right there...through the good and bad. I'm actually considering changing careers and getting a Masters in Nursing because of Bob's experiences. It's something that I've thought about for a long time. Bob, I think you pushed me into getting my Masters in Nursing.
