Yamaziki's protege

This is regarded as her first commercial debut although she has twp EP's that Yamazkai Masayoshi produced (DEFINITELY recommended -- she has really interesting choices in cover versions of English songs that she does in her own unique vocal stylings and in decent ENglish too). Her song actually hit the top ten in Japan which is really startling considering it is not top ten fodder. It is actually a little gloomy and definitely not pop. But her voice is amazing.
We actually saw her live when she was one of the opening acts for Yamazaki at his annual birthday concert in his hometown of Hofu, Yamaguchi. Sat in a tent recovering from heat stroke wondering what possessed me to come when I heard her sing. She should have been a headliner. SHe blew us all away. She had supposedly won some singing contest where she sang a traditional Okinawan song. But this is not your usual teenage song-contest winner. She has magic. She actually reminded me of Sarah Mclachlan when I saw her at a club on a magical summer evening in Winnipeg, Canada. That evening the audience actually say on the dance floor and listened to Sarah in silence -- nobody had hear of her yet because her album was just being released on LP (!) in Canada at the time. Hajime Chitose has that same magic.
