Product Description

Intuos5
Dive into your digital image.
Intuos5. The intuitive way to create. Redefined.

The new Intuos5 may impress with sleek design but it diverts all attention to where creativity comes to life: on screen. Once again this pen tablet will redefine the way creatives work, allowing them to focus entirely on the job at hand.

Intuos5

The Intuos5 is equipped with up to eight ExpressKeys which can be configured individually. Fitted with new haptics they enable you to 'feel' the interaction with the computer application and allow you to work even more intuitively. But wait until you have tried the multifunctional Touch Ring – it's incredibly easy and intuitive to use. It features four programmable functions for every application: for instance scrolling, zooming, brush size, canvas rotation or layer selection. As these can be tailored to your requirements work gets faster and more efficient. You only need to hover your finger over an ExpressKey to review the settings on screen via the Express View display. As a result distraction is minimised – and concentration on your creation maximised.

Intuos5

Another feature enhancing workflow is the new multi-touch function. Configure it for different applications and enjoy user-defined shortcuts accessed by multi-touch gestures. So now you'll be able to work naturally using three, four or five fingers in addition to the pen.

But it doesn’t stop there, as the Intuos5 Grip Pen with 2,048 pressure levels opens new possibilities for accurate and artistic work. The four different nibs add to the pen-on-paper feel. Additional comfort is provided by the soft-touch surface of the pen tablet. An ergonomic wrist rest makes even longer sessions enjoyable – no matter if you're left- or right-handed.

Intuos5

Also, the radial menu cuts production time for retouching and design through structured and fast access to shortcuts.

Aside from many new technical innovations the Intuos5 offers even more freedom through the optional Wireless Accessory Kit. So, if you are looking for more efficiency, productivity and precision the new Intuos5 is just the right tool for you.

Intuos5 – for the best creatives in the world.

I'm a graphic designer and was lucky enough to be bought one of these by my boss at work and immediately fell in love with it, rarely using the mouse now, even for general computer use. The small size isn't really big enough to map to the dual-screen setup in the office (I'd recommend a medium for that), but it's such a joy to use that I wrestle with it all the same. A week later I ordered one for myself. Mapped to my one 24" screen at home it's perfect. Don't be put off by 'small'; it's a decent size and a lot bigger than the £50 Bamboo I had before. This is a professional product that's quite a few steps up from an entry-level Bamboo. The size is also perfect for small-medium desks or for resting on laps.

The tablet itself is very well built and sturdy, and very comfortable for resting wrists on. Dragging the well made, nicely grippable pen across has a slight sense of matte about it, since the tablet is not glossy or slippery; an ever-so-slight texture, that means it gives a nice, natural feedback, perhaps like drawing on thick, quality paper or card i.e. this doesn't feel tacky or lightweight.

The pen comes with spare and alternative nibs, my favourite being one with a tiny spring that gives the nib a bit of give when you press it, sort of like a felt tip. All extra nibs are neatly hidden away within the pen holder.

The Intuos5 (S) is perfect for graphics designers and digital artists, offering supreme accuracy, pressure sensitivity and all the inherent benefits of using an intuitive and natural device. The touch controls (effectively making the tablet double as a large tracking pad) are a valuable extra, and I was soon using my fingers to scroll and flick through web pages and documents.

I'm a designer by profession but bought this tablet for personal use. I wouldn't say I'm a "serious" artist, but I definitely want to get into it a lot more; this has definitely given me a kick to do that.

Having used a cheap old £30 tablet in the past, I thought it would take some time to get used to this - but I was wrong! It took me a few hours to get used to the pen and using the touch features of the tablet. Its very responsive and just seems natural. It hasn't yet replaced my Logitech MX mouse, but I think there is a good possibility that it might.

I thought it might be difficult as I have to stare at the screen whilst drawing or sketching, but that isn't the case at all. Right from the start, it just seemed natural and I was doing it without even putting any thought into it.

The installation was a breeze, took about 2-3 minutes to get drivers and software all installed. I've had the tablet for a couple of weeks now and each day I spend more and more time on it. Its brilliant to use with Photoshop CS6 and Corel Painter 12; I haven't tried it with Illustrator yet though. If you buy this for use with those applications then do a Google search for "wacom photoshop setup tutorial". There are some good guides on getting some setups for brushes. Not absolutely necessary, but it will help you learn a few tricks.

SMALL or MEDIUM
I was really debating which to get, but I'm definitely glad I've gone for the medium. I recently used the small one at work and found it harder to sketch on. Its just a tiny bit too small for me. I wouldn't say its bad, I'm sure you can get used to it - but since I started with the medium tablet, I much prefer this one. The actual "drawing" area is about 75% of A4.

This size is really all you need unless you are a painter and are accustomed to working with large sweeping arm gestures. For those who work on computers, the small size is plenty big enough for even very intricate work. It takes a while to get used to using the pen and learning all the controls and options but Photoshop was basically designed to be used with such an instrument, and using PS with a mouse, or (worse!) the Apple trackpad (as I have done for well over a year), will just give you RSI. Give your arm and hand a break and get this fantastic Wacom graphics tablet, you won't ever look back.

I have owned previous models of WACOM tablets and wore them out, but this so far is the best one. The quick buttons and handy but most of all I use the rotating disk. I have programmed it to do different things in different applications. I love the design of this item - so sleek and smooth, nice touch is the pen holder containing all the spare pen points. One advice to everyone who is new with tablets - change the pen point often so you will not scratch the surface of the tablet.

Having been a huge fan of Wacom bamboo fun, but wanting to upgrade, I took a long time to read several reviews of different tablets before purchasing the Intuos5. I am hugely impressed with it, and it didn't take any time at all to adjust to using this. A few points that may be of help to anyone deciding whether to buy this or not...

*The usb lead is much longer than with the bamboo fun, and so I ended up buying the wireless kit which I highly recommend. It saves getting tangled up and makes the whole drawing experience much easier and clutter-free.
* I had heard that previous Intuos tablets had a surface that was too slippery. Having never tried it before, I can't comment on the difference, but can confidently state that this one doesn't have the same problem. It's lovely and smooth to draw on, but with some normal wanted resistance and definitely not slippy.
* The touch element is great, and takes a little getting used to (simply to remember to use it!) if you're familiar with using a non-touch tablet. It's worth noting that the rotate function doesn't work in Photoshop Elements, but I've tried and tested it with full Photoshop and it works fine with that.
*The stylus is very comfortable to use, and has a lovely set of nibs to choose from, all kept in their own safe slots in the base of the stylus holder, which keeps them from getting lost or damaged.

All in all, this exceeded my expectations and I feel it's well worth the money.
