Manufacturer's Description

The Cintiq 21UX interactive pen display provides the best-of-class pen experience for working directly on the screen. It combines the advantages of a large-format LCD monitor with the control, comfort, and productivity of Wacom's most sophisticated patented cordless, battery-free pen technology. With a 21.3" TFT diagonal display, the Cintiq 21UX delivers a highly sensitive pen-on-screen experience and a generous active area for working directly on large images, concepts, and designs in the most natural way possible. Working directly with the pen on screen is a natural motion that gives you an unprecedented degree of control and allows you to take advantage of natural hand-eye coordination, helping you work more intuitively and noticeably faster. The display's completely flat surface allows the hand and pen to glide over the surface of the Cintiq without bumping into any bezels or borders. A dynamically-adjustable stand allows you to rotate the display up to 180° in each direction, incline the display from 10° to 65°, and even removes it for comfortable lap use. Rear roller feet make the incline adjustments easy; the result is freedom to adjust the interactive display to positions that work for you.Strategically-placed ExpressKeys and touch strips are programmable, allowing you to customize your Cintiq to your needs. The ExpressKeys are easily accessible on either side of the display and provide quick access to keyboard shortcuts, modifier keys, and functions that minimize dependence on the keyboard for uninterrupted work sessions. Finger-sensitive touch strips are located on either side of the display for easy zooming, scrolling, or making tool adjustments without taking focus away from the pen tip.

Excellent Product 19 Jan 2011
I have been using the Cintiq for concept art and illustration for number of years. Quite simply the best way to design. You really should buy this if you draw on computers for long periods of time.
Also serves as an excellent way to plan compositions and colour schemes for painting. Bear in mind you will need to own Photoshop or some other pressure sensitive image creation software.
It's a little heavy, so don't expect to have it on your lap for long periods.
I have it on my desk so it overhangs - you can spin the screen around if you wish, although in photoshop CS4+ you can do that with a shortcut key within the software. Having both ways is still cool.
The pen may seem like it is drifting from the screen in the corners as the screen is set back from the pad, I don't find this a problem at all, as I tend to draw and paint 99% in the central area. You might notice this when you go to close a window and hit the wrong button the first few times! Keep using it and you'll get the hang of it.
5* product - nothing is better.

I'm sure a lot of digital artists out there wonder if the Cintiq is really worth the cost - it is one expensive piece of kit (especially for us Brits, who seem to pay through the nose for pretty much everything). It is certainly a nice piece of equipment, and having had it now for about a month I enjoy working with it. For me it makes some small improvements to using an Intuos Tablet, while throwing up some other problems too - took me a while to sort out and get used to the two monitor set up for example, oh, and Mac users need to go out and buy an extra piece of cabling. But is it £1300/£1500 more useful than an intuos? Nope. Not one bit. It is nice to paint onto your painting, sure, but not THAT nice. I reckon it is about £500 too expensive.

Having previously owned a cintiq 12wx and a A4 intous 3 I found the Cintiq 21UX for me falls somewhere in the middle but in a good way, the 21ux offers you the luxury of working directly on the screen while offering a huge working space thats even bigger than (what I had already thought was large) the A4 intous 3 tablet. Its advantages really depends on what you intend on using it for as at first I was shocked to find that using a 21ux felt very similar to using a 12wx and offered only small advantages over it, however this was only for sketching. But with the increased screen size and superior colour gamut the 21ux is far supperior(and faster) for other tasks such as digital painting, video editing, graphics design, 3D modelling and 2D/3D animation (I strongly recommend 2D animators limit their options to the cintiq range especially the 21UX and 24HD as this is where I found the cintiq's offered the most advantages with its increased accuracy and increased work flow speed that working directly on the screen allows which is very important for animators). Which comes to my main point of this review and the biggest factor I would (If I could go back in time) consider before parting with my hard earned ££££££££££ do you really need the 21UX? I am not trying to say It isn't worth the asking price because it is; the hand to eye co-ordination issue you get with the intous tablets are removed and as i've mentioned earlier the increased screen size definately comes in handy for projects where working on a large screen is beneficial but the advantages it offers over the other wacom tablets does not make the other tablets obsolete you can still get the job done on a intous 4 or a cintiq 12wx (with a little more time and effort)it all comes down to what you can afford; if you can comfortably afford to spend over £1500-£1700 on this tablet then do so you wont regret it, however if you can afford to spend a bit more time on a given project to get the same results on an intous or cintiq 12wx then you may find you could be saving yourself quite a lot of money buying one of those cheaper tablets instead.
