Navigation

Bamboo tablets are a great help for navigating your computer - whether you're moving your cursor across the screen, opening and closing files and folders, or working in common software applications. Bamboo tablets combine pen and multi-touch in one tablet, allowing you to alternate between the pen and gestures on the tablet surface.

Multi-touch makes it possible to use simple finger taps and hand gestures to navigate around your desktop and perform common tasks. Wacom introduces nine useful gestures that you can use with your tablet.

To navigate with the pen, just hover with the pen tip over the tablet surface. Each point on the tablet maps to a corresponding place on screen, making it easy to move your cursor. Tap the pen to select, and tap twice to open files. With a pen, you can perform any motion or command that you make with a mouse, and many more. Most tablet users will tell you that once you've got used to the pen, you'll never want to be without one.

Alternating between input devices can help reduce wrist strain caused by repetitive strain or RSI. A tablet provides an ergonomic alternative to traditional input devices, allowing you to work with your computer with minimal effort and from a relaxed position. A tablet assumes all the normal functions of a traditional computer mouse including basic navigation and selection, but provides vital ergonomic advantages as well.

Fun with photos

Introduce a little bit of fun to your digital photographs. Bamboo helps you to bring out their best with anything from subtle improvements to radical changes. With just a couple of flicks of your pen, you can make irritating "red-eyes" a thing of the past. Personalise your photos by signing your name or drawing directly on them. Or, you can precisely cut yourself out of regular photos and paste yourself into the background of your choice. Put yourself on an exotic beach without even leaving your house. All of the above enhancements are easy to do with Bamboo and photo editing software like Adobe Photoshop Elements, which is included with every Bamboo Fun Pen and Touch.

Once you have your photos looking the way you want, share them with your family and friends. Adobe Photoshop Elements includes the ability to create professional looking photo books that can be quickly and easily edited and rearranged. There is support for tagging and keywords so your favourite photos can be located within seconds. Or, use online photo sharing sites such as Flickr and Picasa to show your snapshots to the world.

Paint/Draw

Unleash your inner artist with Bamboo. Whether you are new to painting or an aspiring Picasso, Bamboo can get you started in the world of digital art. Bamboo has advanced pen technology for a natural pen on paper feel. Depending on your preference and inspiration, Bamboo can be a digital paintbrush, pencil, felt pen, airbrush, and much, much more.

For painting and drawing, Bamboo Fun Pen and Touch is the best Bamboo for you. Bundled with both Corel Painter Essentials (Bamboo Fun M only) and Adobe Photoshop Elements, Bamboo Fun is ready right out of the box to get your creative juices flowing. With its larger active area, Bamboo Fun M allows you to be more precise with your artwork and add fine details that your friends and family will enjoy. Express yourself and create a difference with Bamboo.

Great Hardware 11 Jan 2010
For the money, this tablet is a real bargain. The fact that it is bundled with some good software makes it even better value.

The negative review from a previous contributor seems to focus upon problems which he had using the tablet as a touch pad, and specifically multi-touch gestures. I would suggest that this is probably a software issue more than a hardware limitation. Rotate and Zoom gestures work great for me in OSX 10.6 I also find that it works well in Windows 7 although I havent personally tried it out with all of the gestures.

Aside from anything else, I would imagine that what most people are really interested in is the pen & tablet interface which for my money is accurate and reasonably natrual feeling. If you dont want the touch functionality then the Bamboo Pen might be worth considering instead, but it doesnt come with Bundled software and I have read (but cant confirm) that it has a lower pressure resolution than the pen & touch models.

I had been considering getting a new tablet as I am getting more interested in digital design, and the Trust tablet my husband bought me a few years ago was not really working for me. I was able to 'test-drive' an earlier version Wacom tablet at a friend's and decided that it would be worth spending some of my birthday money on one. I went for this particular one because it had a nice little bundle with it, the PSE 8 and Artrage software, which to me made it worth the little extra I paid. In fact, I was able to make use of PSE8 just yesterday to work around a task I couldn't quite sort out in my other design package.

It arrived promptly and I was able to get it set up and working in minutes - and I'm not exactly the most savvy when it comes to this sort of thing. I usually leave it to my Tech Support (the hubby). I use the Pen aspect more than the Touch, but the Touch side does get used when browsing images and the Internet, and is great for zooming in and out. I hardly use my mouse at all now, except for a couple of little tasks that I can't quite get the Pen do. And another little programme that came along with it is the Bamboo Scribe. Although it does work out quicker for me to type longer pieces, like this, for smaller notes and jottings, and comments on forums, it's great fun to use the Scribe; it can even generally read my spider scrawl of handwriting, although the occasional mis-translations can be quite hilarious.

Within the design package I use, the Pen pressure sensitivity is really useful and again, a cinch to set up.

All in all, I have to say that to date I am extremely pleased with this purchase, and would fully recommend it to anyone thinking of getting it.

At first I thought it was quite small but after using it for an hour you get used to it as the size of the drawing area relates to the size of the screen.I mainly use it for drawing on Illustrator & editing photos on Photoshop. It works like a dream with these programs, you get so much more control over your editing & it's very responsive. It's also very thin & compact so great for taking around with you in a laptop bag.Well worth the money!
