4.0 out of 5 stars A MACHO WEDDING AND THE START OF THE BRET ERA! 4 Aug 2000
By A Customer
I was just 8 years old when Summerslam 91 took place at Madison Square Garden, and it was the first pay per view that I ever saw as a WWF fan. 9 years later I can still honestly say that it is one of my favourite WWF shows of all time.
After a reasonable six man tag to start the night, Summerslam 91 saw its best match with the intercontinental title war between Bret Hart and Mr Perfect. After a long and exciting match with several close falls, Bret won his first WWF singles title on this night with the Sharpshooter - a fact that would become more poignant over the next few years as his career became one of the greatest in WWF history. Well, this was the night his singles career really took off.
Next up, the Natural Disasters demolish the Bushwhackers in a match which sees an appearance from the late Andre the Giant. Then, there's a solid match for the Million Dollar belt, aided by the emotionally charged commentary of Roddy Piper.
The fifth match has a memorable stipulation - the loser spends a night in jail. It's the Boss Man against the Mountie in a technically poor encounter - but the events afterwards at the jail are very funny.
The Legion of Doom finally win the tag team belts in a solid outing with the Nasty Boys, and the crowd really do go wild when the LOD finally score the pinfall. Then there's a dull match between Greg Valentine and IRS before Hulk Hogan and the Ultimate Warrior take on Sgt Slaughter and pals in a 3 on 2 handicap match, refereed by Sid Justice. Hogan and Justice celebrate after a rather tainted victory which would turn out to be the Hulkster's final Summerslam appearance.
The finale of Summerslam 91 is the wedding of Macho Man and Miss Elizabeth.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Greatest PPV ever 10 Nov 2003
What can i say Summerslam 91 has it all!
All the matches have stipulations or a title up for grabs! (except for Irs vs the Hammer which i still dont understand!)
A Massive main event starring the 2 biggest babyfaces in wrestling history with hogan and the warrior doing there bit for their country.
The tag team titles up for grabs as the LOD (RIP Hawk) take on the nasty boys in a no DQ match, you just know this one will get ugly.
For once ted dibiase puts the million dollar belt up so virgil can get his revenge.
The only loser goes to jail match i can remember between the mountie and the bossman.
I could go on about every match because they are all truly great!
But the highlight is the greatest match in WWF (yes it will always be the WWF to me) history.
Intercontinental title on the line as the late great Mr.Perfect defends against Bret Hart, A feud which was started way back in an interview at Wrestlemania 5. This match has it all! Did Bret kick out of the perfectplex, Buy it and find out!
This event was also one of the last times Andre the Giant appeared at a WWF show, even though he is on crutches his huge appearance is felt.
Summerslam 91 has all the big names, every style of match not forgetting a wedding!
Thinking about it so many of the stars are no longer with us, The british Bulldog, The Texas Tornado, Mr.Perfect, Andre the Giant, Hawk of LOD and Miss Elizabeth. This is a truly great way to remember them, it is the Greatest PPV in WWF History!

5.0 out of 5 stars A SummerSlam Made In Heaven 26 Oct 2000
By A Customer
This PPV SummerSlam '91c was awesome. The line up of matches tells it's own story. But I believe probably like most other viewers that the Mr. Perfect and Bret Hart match was the best. The Ultimate Warrior and Hulk Hogan teaming up in a handicap match against Sgt. Slaughter, Col. Mustafa, and Gen. Adnan. In my opinion this match didn't quite live up to expectations but still a great match anyway. Sid Justice does a great job as reffere. All in all this PPV was an excellent one from the WWF. A must buy for any fan

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the greatest pay per views ever! 20 Dec 2012
From the start where we see the dragon ricky steamboat blowing fire into the air, summerslam 91 maintans it's quality where it starts off. The opening match between bulldog, steamboat and el matador vs the power and glory and the warlord is a good opener, then we have virgil vs million dollar man for the million dollar belt, followed by the match of the night mr perfect vs bret hart for the ic title. This match is class from start to finish. Then its the mountie vs the big boss man and the loser goes to jail. This ends up being the mountie and the hands cuffs are put on by the bossman himself. You also see the mountie on his way to jail throughout the rest of the ppv. The main event is Sergent Slaughter,General adnan and colonel mustafa vs the Ultimate Warrior and Hulk Hogan with Sid Justice as the special guset referee. At the end of the match sid poses with hulk hogan. And as if that wasn't enough you get a wedding marrying matcho man and miss elizabeth and the wedding reception!, look out for a snake hiding in one of the presents sent by jake the snake roberts.
