Product Description

The legend that is Stone Cold Steve Austin features in ten of his greatest matches, including his epic Wrestlemania XV encounter with The Rock. Other delights include a 'Hell in a Cell' bout between Big Boss Man and The Undertaker, a 'Brawl for All' match between Butterbean and Bart Gunn, and a 'Triple Threat' match for the Hardcore Championship between Billy Gunn, Al Snow, and Hardcore Holly.

2.0 out of 5 stars A Bad Wrestlemania. Silly Add-On, Too! 29 Aug 2012
Wrestlemania XV begins with Boys II Men singing 'America The Beautiful' and, all round, I felt it was a very good performance... makes a change when compared to other renditions at Wrestlemanias both before and after this.

Anyhow, the events begins with a Triple Threat Hardcore match featuring Al Snow, Hardcore Holly and Billy Gunn. I have to say, compared to other matches of its' kind, this one is very dull. Billy Gunn was robbed, too! Also, being a Hardcore match, there is a limited use of weapons and, really, I have seen better openers to a Wrestlemania event than this!

The team of D'Lo Brown and Test face Jeff Jarrett and Owen Hart in a Tag Team match. To be frank, this is a quick enough match but a nice performance from Jeff and Owen here. Sadly, this would be Owen Hart's last Wrestlemania performance; he would die rather tragically while on duty less than a month or two after this. R.I.P.

Bart Gunn faces 'Butterbean' in a Brawl for All match. Here, we have a nice guest appearance from Gorilla Monsoon, who gets a lovely ovation from the crowd. R.I.P. - the Legend you are! However, I have to say here, boxing and wrestling do not match!! This bout is living proof...

Big Show faces Mankind in a singles match. Now, Paul White... The Big Show. He came to the WWF (E) in February of 1999. As I best recall, he did have a pretty tense rivalry with Mankind (Mick Foley) when he first arrived. Sadly, that is about all they did with him and Vince McMahon having spent (reportedly) millions trying to obtain his signature with the Company. As of 2012, and this year's Wrestlemania along with that, he has finally found a bit of respect by winning the U.S. Championship, last I heard. However, prior to that, he is a character that was full of Wrestlemania mishaps.

2.0 out of 5 stars Well at least the main event is good... 8 Sep 2010

If you'd asked me prior to a re-watch of the event my thoughts on WrestleMania XV I'd have had fond memories. After all it features the first match of Steve Austin and The Rock's WrestleMania triology, which was an absolute cracker (even if I would contend that it's the least impressive of the three bouts). That the match stands up today isn't much of a surprise given how proficient the two were at working a fast paced style.

What was a surprise to me was how little else of the card stands up all these many years later. The Undertaker's match is one of the most pointless uses of Hell In A Cell ever (and his post-match "hanging" of the Big Boss Man is as see-through as they come) and whilst I can understand the (effective) storyline reasons for the non-finish in the Kane/Triple H match that doesn't make it any less of an insult to the paying audience. Shane McMahon has a decent match with X-Pac but even by now I was getting sick of both men's characters. Sable's match with Tori is a nothing affair, booked purely as it's a year since her "break out" performance whilst the awful Big Show/Mankind match proves that as lazy as Show is/was a lot of the problems he has faced during his WW(F)E career can be traced back to the terrible booking that he was handed during the early days of his stint. And to think that Vince spent years eager to get this man under contract. The Intercontinental, World Tag Team and Hardcore title defences are all inoffensive enough but largely forgettable and whilst Butterbean's decimation of Bart Gunn is amusing, to an extent, it really has no part at a WrestleMania.

Overall, main event aside, there isn't much to enjoy about WM XV.

The second disc is an entertaining profile of Steve Austin, originally released in the months after WM XV.
