5.0 out of 5 stars wrestlemania 13 Oct 2010
By steve
A great tagged classic, Wrestlmania 10 is the highlight, 9 is disapointing but still ok.

Wrestlemania 9 best matches:

Undertaker vs. Giant Gonzalez - 7/10 - Interesting and unique match, great entrance for Undertaker

Hulk Hogan & Brutus Beefcake vs. Money, Inc - 7/10 - Average tag match with a poor ending

Bret Hart vs. Yokozuna - 7.5/10 - Ok main event, liked the ending and then hulk hogan coming for another match straight aftrewards to win the title in a bizare moment.

Wrestlemania 10 best matches:

Bret Hart vs. Owen Hart - 10/10 - Best opening match ever on any pay per view and one of the best in history !

Lex Luger vs. Yokozuna (special referee Mr Perfect) - 8/10 - an entertaining match because of the crowd, the drama and the suprise ending.

Shawn Michaels vs. Razor Ramoan - 10/10 - the first ladder match and an absolute classic. This set the standard for today, also one that set HBK's career of into stardome.

Yokozuna vs. Bret Hart (special referee Rowdy Roddy Pipper) - 7/10 - not the best of matches but i liked the atmosphere in the match and the celebration at the end of the match with a deserving winner.

Overall worth the buy for Wrestlemania 10, which has two of the best matches in history on it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Two classic matches...but not much else 8 Sep 2010
By IWFIcon VINE™ VOICE
If WrestleMania IX isn't quite the worst WrestleMania of all time in terms of in-ring action, then it has to be the least relevant, exciting or worhty line up of all the shows in that name. There is very little that has any build-up or hype worthy of the biggest show of the year, and it's not even as if this is a WrestleMania XIII which was uninspiring in it's build up but has grown in stature as years have gone by.

You could argue that the opening Intercontinental Title match pitting Shawn Michaels against Tatanka is decent; you could argue it's the best match Tatanka ever had in the WW(F)E; what isn't worthy of any arguement is that it despite those "positives" it is the worst singles match HBK ever had at WrestleMania. The Steiners/Headshrinkers match that follows it is the highlight of the card (with the possible exception of the fans booing Bob Backlund out of the arena during his pitiful match with Razor Ramon) and it's all downhill from there.

One Doink was bad enough so to see two in his match with Crush, complete with the worst attempt at mime ever seen in any form of "entertainment", is horrifying whilst Ramon/Backlund is only of interest to see WWF fans not doing what Vince told them to in booing the babyface. The MegaManiacs against Money Inc is terrible and my delight back in the day that Hulk Hogan DIDN'T win the Tag Team Titles sure came back to bite me less than two hours later. Lex Luger and Mr. Perfect have a disappointing match (any promise Luger had in his NWA days never transferred to the WWF) and The Undertaker has another useless opponent in the form of Giant Gonzales which results in...yes, you've guessed it a useless match.

The real nadir of WM 9 is the way it shoehorns Bret Hart out of the World Title picture, with an underserved loss to Yokozuna, purely so Hulk Hogan can save the day and return to the top of the WWF. I may think Hart can be a trifle precious and humourless about his career but even I have sympathy on this one. Still, his hokey "go get him, Hulk" still makes me laugh to this day.

WrestleMania X is a much more fondly remembered show than IX, and with good reason. The battle of the Hart Brothers that opens up the show is as good a "straight" match as you will see from this era and perhaps represents the high-point of Owen Hart's career. Even this, though, is outshone by the classic ladder match between Razor Ramon and Shawn Michaels. A rarity, in that the ladder match stipulation makes storyline sense, this was without doubt the bout that set Michaels off on his road to main event glory. Even watching it today it takes the breath away and shows just how willing HBK was to put his body on the line in pursuit of glory.

However with the possible exception of a mildy entertaining bout pitting Randy Savage against Crush, this is where the excitement ends for WM X. One Yokozuna match on a card is too much, so to get two here (against Lex Luger and then Bret Hart) is a complete downer. Maybe if Lex Luger hadn't blabbed to the press about his planned win in his first match, 'Zuna may not have had to cheat death by wrestling twice in one night...The rest of the undercard is dire as well with horrific mixed tag match (is it any wonder than Bam Bam Bigelow bombed as a WrestleMania XI headliner when he was fighing a midget clown on this event), extremely dull World Tag Team title and Women's title matches and a pointless Earthquake Vs Adam Bomb match.

Given that the only two great matches on this collection (Bret/Owen, Shawn/Razor) are available elsewhere it's difficult to give this Tagged Classic the seal of approval. And that's why I only give two stars to a collection that includes two five-star classics. Yes, in a way those two matches are worth the price of admission alone but they are available on better collections elsewhere and so by all means check them out...just don't do it via this set.

2.0 out of 5 stars vintage times,vintage manias 18 Sep 2008
By sean paul mccann VINE™ VOICE
Ah sweet memories,i remember these events as if they were yesterday, they were aired in 1993 and 1994 respectively and contained a wholesome family value typical of the WWF at the time, when good was good and bad was bad,a simplier time in terms of being a wrestling fan perhaps,i first saw these and indeed taped them with the view of a child,it seemed perfect, now as an adult in the current WWE era there is something about these two events that has dimenished slightly.
The event opened with the intercontiental championship being up for contestion, the champion at the time shawn michaels went up against tatanka. This was a good contest,an even battle with good spots but rattled on a bit,it was close to twenty minutes long and openers shouldnt be that epic in scale,a good contest though but had it been shorter i reckon i would be heaping more praise at this match.
The headshrinkers went up against the steiner brothers next in a tag team match that i was very pleased with, this match featured some very innovative team work and individual feats of skill, the pace was high and the teams worked well together to turn a quiet enough crowd somewhat.
Doink went up against crush next in a match that wasnt up to much, both men fumbled, huffed and puffed and generated nothing in particular, neither was worthy of their paypacket after this.
Razor ramon fought bob backlund in a non hyped match next and to be honest the crowd didnt know who backlund was in my opinion,he skipped out to the ring and the crowd were confused looking, this man won the old wwwf title from billy graham in 1978,i think, and the crowd were oblivious to this, anyway, this match was poor, the crowd died along with it and neither man could work beyond the enviroment,a shocker.
The WWF tag team championships were up for grabs next in a hyped match that was massive in its publicity, the champions were money inc,ted dibiase and irwin r scyhster who went up against the megamaniacs, hulk hogan and brutus the barber beefcake. This match was hyped, much was expected, but it was all much ado about nothing,a poor match,i could go on,but this was one of the all time farces in my opinion.
Lex luger fought mr.perfect next in a good match, lex never did much in the WWF but mr.perect helped him along here and probably helped lex get the push that led him to summerslam and a title shot.
The undertaker fought giant gonzalez next in a real howler,as bad as it gets, this may sound harse and i mildly apologise for being that way,but it was rotten, both men fell to pieces here and nothing worked.
The WWF championship was up next as the champ bret hart went up against yokozuna who deserved his chance, this match was short enough and was terrible, one of the worst main events of all time in my opinion, but wait, more was to come,an unscheduled match featuring hulk hogan and the winner of this was up next and was for the WWF championship,it lasted seconds and was very good when all was said and done,a nice way to end the event but it is very mixed indeed.
Wrestlemania ten, marked, err, the tenth anniversary of wrestlemania and we had a right to expect plenty,i was left wanting yet again.
The event opened with a bit of a classic, bret hart went up against his brother owen, this match was a lesson in perfection, toe to toe wrestling, mat skills, high flying and a level of brutality suited to the time.A hard act to follow and few could manage it so we were treated next to a dogs dinner as we had bam bam and luna going up against doink and dink, there is plenty wrong with that on paper and as everyone camped about i couldnt help but wonder if this was the worst match in the world.
A falls count anywhere match was up next and this was a stipulation treat as they werent as common back then, the match was limited in many ways, least of all was the fact that they werent that adventerous,a poor match in truth.
The womans championship was defended by alundra blayze against leilani kai next, there wasnt much to report here, all over in the blink of an eye.
The tag team championships were up next as the champs, quebecers went up against men on a mission. This was a decent enough match, only jacques and pierre looked like they knew what they were doing though, but it was ok.
The WWF championship was up next as the champ yukozuna went up against lex luger,mr.perfect was the guest ref in this match. This match was really slow, seldom have i seen a match with so many moves designed to accomodate the fact that one of the men was very poor on his feet and he could rest as he worked, this was lame and awful.
Adam bomb fought earthquake next in a squash match that had no function really and didnt need to take place,it did neither any favours.
The event is noted for having a real classic match and thank God for it,the first (second in fact) WWF ladder match for the intercontiental championship, the champ was razor ramon and he went up against shawn michaels. This match is lauded daily and its easy to see why,a real winner on a night of mediocrity,a stonewall classic.
The WWF title was contested again,as the winner of the previous title match went up against bret hart, roddy piper was guest ref. This match wasnt good either, very average,it had some decent elements but not enough, all round this was a lame enough event with the odd flourish of brilliance.
The two dvds together should appeal to all and collectors need certainly apply and while 2.5 stars may seem harsh, then sit down and revisit this and see what you think.
