5.0 out of 5 stars If you want peace and quiet then get your child this!, 1 Dec 2009

Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
Our son saved up for this - we'd initially thought it may be too violent for an eleven year old but considering what's on tv generally, this isn't too bad - wouldn't want younger children who didn't understand that the "violence" is staged to see this though in case they copied it.
Our son and his friends (after parent's permission) have spent a long time creating wrestlers and fighting them to get up the league. They've had a lot of fun changing the costumes around aswell as body types etc - much laughter with some of the creations.
I'd recommend this for young lads/teenagers as it's a game that will keep them interested due to it's many levels - as they get into the skill aspect they get more out of the game.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great as usual, flawed as usual, 26 Dec 2009
By Abe Stranger (Leeds West Yorkshire) - See all my reviews
Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
I've had a version of every Smackdown game to date including all three released on Wii. Each time there's been glitches, some annoying (commentators talking about people who aren't even in the match.. although they do that on TV, they don't do it as if the person is in the current match) some weird (teleportation) those problems haven't really showed themselves this time, there have been some things that partially spoiled it for me.
Most of all there is a rather bad bug in some copies- the one I have, and I hear even some copies on other formats. This occurs in the Road to Wrestlemania mode, namely the one for the create-a-wrestler, where you are required to create a customised wrestler, and at one point you are required to win a Royal rumble match. This in itself can take several attempts, but the real problem is that after this match-every time I tried, and also when I accomplished the same feat with a created wrestler in career mode- the game froze, and didn't load the next screens forcing me to turn it off at the mains. After some searching I found out that there is a way around this, which is to set the character's moveset to the default until it saves after the Rumble. For some reason this fixes it, but it defeats the point of a customisable character.
This version is very different from the previous Wii versions but it ends up looking less short-changed next to previous versions than before. The controls are significantly different, with no motion controls, but 3 different options- either Wiimote and Nunchuk, Classic controller or Gamecube pad. I use a Gamecube pad and it works great. There is no online mode unlike 2009's version which is a shame but there are tons of new matches and modes to make up for it, with new moves such as finishers to eliminate people from the royal rumble, and the option to get onto the apron and dive at opponents.
There is a lack of options in the create a finisher mode and story designer, but they are pretty good for new modes. There are more Divas (women!) than before, and for once I've actually felt inclined to play as them, but there are far less match options for them, with only the mixed tag match having the option to have men and women wrestling together and even then it's a disqualification for a man to hit a woman. Not that I'm into that, but it limits match options more than before, and seems to just be a part of WWE's half hearted attempts to bring itself into a 'PG era' featuring middle aged men making fun of the vertically challenged, and the only woman who is wider than a toothpick being teased about her weight. Thankfully those two elements didn't make it into the game, and I hope the writers have grown up before the next one is due.
