4.0 out of 5 stars The best and worst of the WWE 11 Nov 2003
Matches:

Royal Rumble Match - A highly entertaining Royal Rumble with great performances by Jericho and Matt Hardy. Apart from the predictable ending it was one of the best rumbles in years. 8/10

WWE Championship Match - Kurt Angle vs. Chris Benoit - Match of the year. Perfect technical wrestling from two of the best in the WWE. Great ending with lots of near falls and submissions. Both men deserved the standing ovations at the end of this match. 10/10

World Heavyweight Championship Match - Triple H vs. Scott Steiner - From match of the year to bore of the year, this match is a total mess. With Steiner only using two moves and Triple H unable to carrying Steiner. They both deserved the boos and boring chants they got during the match. 0/10

Torrie Wilson vs. Dawn Marie - The end of the laughable Al Wilson saga. Another awful match from two who can't wrestle. At least this one is over quickly. 0/10

World Tag Team Championship Match - Lance Storm & William Regal vs. Dudley Boyz - Typical stardard tag team match which was nothing new but passable. 5/10

Brock Lesnar vs. Big Show - Brock does well here to carry Big Show in a watchable match where the winner advances to the Royal Rumble match. Quick and painless. 4/10

Get this DVD to see the amazing Angle vs. Benoit match and the entertaining Royal Rumble. But if you want to stay awake skip the HHH vs. Steiner match.

4.0 out of 5 stars Angle and Benoit steal the show...as always! 6 Oct 2003
Everybody loves the Royal Rumble. Everybody who pays to watch it always gets their money's worth out of seeing the thirty-man battle royal. Anything else is just a bonus. And you'll definitely get the biggest bonus imaginable from the WWE title match.

Big Show Vs Brock Lesnar (winner advances to the rumble match): Not terrible but their match at Survivor Series was ten times better. It was a wise move to make this the opening contest and not making it too long as it saved the match - 6/10

World Tag Team title match - Dudley Boyz Vs William Regal and Lance Storm: We all love it when the Dudleys appear at the Rumble. Their table match with the Hardy Boyz at the 2000 Royal Rumble was an all time classic and their tag title matches at the 2001 and 2002 Royal Rumbles were phenomenal but their outing here wasn't up to the usual standard that we all love. Still a good match though - 7.5/10

Torrie Wilson Vs Dawn Marie: Their match at No Mercy was far more enjoyable and nothing they do can beat their appearance at Armageddon (obviously!) but this match finished off the ridiculous storyline that they were sadly involved in so you have to praise it for that - 5/10

World Heavyweight Title match - Triple H Vs Scott Steiner: It was superbly hyped but the match itself was ruined by Big Poppa Pump doing nothing but suplexes and an ending that you should've known was bound to happen. The aftermath was highly entertaining though - 6.5/10

WWE title match - Kurt Angle Vs Chris Benoit: Ever since their first ever encounter at Wrestlemania 17, we've realised that it's impossible for these two to have a bad match and it's certainly no exception here. Undoubtedly the best match these two have had with manoeuvres and counters that will take your breath away....

Royal Rumble: This is the reason why we have this pay-per-view. It's impossible for the Royal Rumble to be boring. AND THE UNDERTAKER'S BACK!!! ANOTHER BONUS!!! Solidly entertaining - 10/10

The price of the DVD is worth it for the rumble alone but the Angle/Benoit encounter is what makes this a must have. The extras on the DVD are worth checking out. The usual interviews are good enough but the documentaries looking back at the Royal Rumble's history as well as the commercial for the Rumble (and the making of it) are further proof that you need to purchase this. The highlights of the special features however, are the trailers announcing the Undertaker's return which feature highlights of his decade of destruction.

Simply put, your WWE DVD collection is incomplete without this. Read more ›

4.0 out of 5 stars Royal Rumble 2003 - "A Good Start To The Year" 11 Jan 2004
By Grim
I have always been a fan of the Royal Rumble since watching my first in 1989, and this is one of the best RR events I've seen overall.

ROYAL RUMBLE ENTRY MATCH
Brock Lesnar v Big Show with Paul Heyman
The winner would enter the rumble match and it's an entertaining start to the show. 7/10

WORLD TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP
William Regal/Lance Storm v The Dudley Boyz
Fairly dull match, nothing special. 6/10

STEPDAUGHTER VS STEPMOTHER MATCH
Torrie Wilson v Dawn Marie
It's a good time to make a cup of tea, you won't miss anything. 1/10

WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP
Triple H with Ric Flair v Scott Steiner
I always respected Triple H for being able to sell a match, but even he has his work cut out with this match! Steiner was shown to be invincible in the pre-match build up to make the match more appealing, but it turned out to be perhaps the worst title match EVER! Triple H spends most of this rolling around in agony as Steiner delivers his single move, the belly to belly suplex, again and again (please let me know if you spot another). Even the interference of Ric Flair can't save this as Steiner takes the WWE to new lows. The worst thing is, this is not a short match and you will find yourself screaming at the screen for mercy! -10/10 (and that's being kind!)

WWE CHAMPIONSHIP
Kurt Angle v Chris Benoit
It's times like this you are glad the WWE has 2 world titles! This is a match of the year contender as both men turn on the wrestling ability and style. It keeps you gripped from the first introduction to the excellent ending. Both men deserve a lot of credit and it's nice to see Benoit receive a huge ovation at the conclusion....

ROYAL RUMBLE MATCH
30 Superstars
The rumble match can be a classic or a complete dud, and fortunately this one is very enjoyable (not quite as good as 2001 though). From the brilliant beginning to the slightly predictable conclusion, this match delivers. 9.5/10 Read more ›

4.0 out of 5 stars Good, But Theres Been Better 12 Jun 2003
The Royal Rumble 2003 in Boston was The WWE's First SellOut Show in Nearly a Year and They Needed to Make The Event Memorable. Whilst The Show was, For The Most Part Very Good. The Decision to Matchup Triple H and Scott Steiner, both of whom are Past Their Prime and put the match so high on the card spoiled the show a lot.

Big Show vs. Brock Lesnar - This Match would Continue the ongoing Brock vs. Paul Heyman Feud and The Winner would get to enter the Royal Rumble. This Match was a Bit Too Slow, but better than Most would expect from Big Show.

Dawn Marie vs. Torrie Wilson - Fans were Really Glad to See This Match as It Meant an End to The Terrible Torrie/Dawn Feud that had been going for several Months. A Quick Match.

William Regal & Lance Storm vs. The Dudley Boyz - A Standard Tag Team Match for The WWE World Tag Team Titles.

Scott Steiner vs. Triple H - This WWE World Championship Match Killed The Atmosphere in The Arena. People Just Couldnt Believe How Dull This Match was and How Predictable The Ending would be.

Chris Benoit vs. Kurt Angle - This Match Was Undoubtedly The Match of The Night with Both Men Pulling out all The Stops in an attempt to Win The WWE Championship. Both Recieved a Standing Ovation after This Match.

30 Man Royal Rumble - This Royal Rumble was Good, But 2001 and 2002 were Better. There were No Surprise Entrants for The Second Year Running and at times there was Too Many People in The Ring so it became hard to see what was happening. (Usually there is 8 or 9 at most, This Rumble Saw 11+). The Ending was also all too Predictable....

Royal Rumble Participants:

This Show Was Good, But The WWE Needed to Put on a Much More Stellar Performance to try and take advantage of Their Sellout Show. This DVD Is Worth Getting, But Dont Expect Brilliant Matchup after Brilliant Matchup Because You Wont Find it until The Last 2 Matches (Benoit/Angle, Royal Rumble).

The DVD Extras are The Usual Roundup of Interviews and Feud Buildups. Read more ›
