As far as the series of tagged team classics go these two events feature plenty of talking points, least of all the 1998 hell in a cell featuring mankind and the undertaker,i will return to that later, the king of the ring 1997 and 1998 are two good pay per views and 1997s version is slightly underrated so you are getting a great deal of quality if you purchase these two events.
The event opened with a king of the ring semi final match between hunter hearst helmsley and ahmed johnson, this match was good enough, triple h had his work cut out to get a real flow out of ahmed who wasnt the most natural wrestler to ever lace up a pair of boots but in the end we got a fairly decent bout.
The other semi final was next as mankind fought jerry lawler who was in full heel mode at this point and was enjoying himself, this was also the start of the crowd turning towards mankind which probably baffled some, the match was manic enough while never racing away with itself,a solid enough match.
Goldust and crush were up next and much was made of the strength of crush and his will to win while little was said of goldust, this seemed odd in light of how it ended but this was a good enough match.
A six man tag match was up next as the hart foundation (owen hart, jim the anvil and british bulldog) went up againt the legion of doom and sid. This match was very good, one of the best of the night,i could say more but i wont.
The king of the ring final was up next and i wont say who was in it but it was a brutal enough affair laced with venom and that all important will to win,a good match.

The highly popular "Tagged Classics" series moves into the "Attitude Era" with these two PPV offerings from 97' and 98'.

Both events are dubbed "King Of The Ring" and feature the once-prestigious single elimination tournament to determine the true "King" of (at the time) the World Wrestling Federation.

These events took place back during a time where the "King Of The Ring" tournament was more than just an attempt to garner high ratings for Smackdown!. It was an PPV extravaganza in its own right.

King Of The Ring 97' obviously pays homage to the roots and the unique nature of the event (the classic "royal subject"-guarded "sliding doors" are on display in the entranceway throughought the show), although old-school fans may be disappointed to see the tournament be joined "in progress" on this DVD, with the quarter final matches already being contested on the pre-PPV Raw. That said, all of the KOTR tournament matches are very good, especially the brutal final between HHH and Mankind.

Non-tournament matches include a surprisingly interesting bout between Goldust and Crush, a better-than-expected WWF Title Match between Undertaker and Farooq and a show-stealing encounter between Stone Cold and Shawn Michaels (that is almost ruined by it's incredibly cheap conclusion).

Sadly, the much-hyped 6-Man Tag between The Hart Foundation and LOD & Sid is a disappointment, but considering the strength of the other matches, this is a minor glitch on an otherwise near spotless card of action.

KOTR 98' only stands out for the violent double-main event that it's built around.
