This double disc set is a presentation of War Games matches from its inception in 1987, until its demise in 2000. The early two ring, cage covered matches, are blood soaked and brutal. As this was the offering from the then named Jim Crockett promotions, who formed part of the National Wrestling Alliance group. One such spectacle is a triple cage match, where one cage is stacked on top of another, shrinking in size to the top cage.
From 1990 onwards, after the sale of the group to Ted Turner, and the new name of World Championship Wrestling, the matches take a more family friendly turn; though the 1991 and 1992 matches are no less compelling and intense.
The inventor of the War Games concept, Dusty Rhodes, introduces every match and gives some opinions into the goings on at that time, which adds extra insight for the viewer. With the matches spanning a 13 year period, there is certainly something here to please everyone. Having waited a long time for this release, I certainly wasn't disappointed.

4.0 out of 5 stars Vintage wrestling action! 28 Sep 2013
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
Disc one and disc two are excellent, but sadly like WCW itself the last match War Games 2000 is cringeworthy. Don't let this put you off though the earlier matches are very exciting and Dusty Rhodes is an entertaining and honest host. If you loved WCW or just love the hardcore end of wrestling you'll love this dvd, plenty of action and just enough talk to make it work. Highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Blast from the past!! 8 Sep 2013

Being of a certain age, I remember WCW in the early 90's so seeing so many of the old names and faces was brilliant. There tends to be an element of recurring familiarity with how the matches play out - particularly in the early matches - but that panto 'good guy vs bad guy' was what I grew up watching.

Dusty Rhodes gives some good insight as well, including his misgivings about the rebirth of the War Games. All in all, one for fans who remember a certain era or who are interested in an era they never saw.
